Ministry of the Public Service, Constitutional and Political Reform Signs MOU with the Love Foundation on Good Governance Curriculum

The Ministry of the Public Service, Constitutional and Political Reform and the Love Foundation signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for a good governance, transparency and ethics curriculum at an official ceremony on February 18, 2021.

U.S. Embassy, Love Foundation, and Kolbe Foundation Launch Community Resource Hub in St. Martins

On December 15, U.S. Embassy Belmopan, alongside project partners the Love Foundation and the Kolbe Foundation, formally launched its second community resource hub in St. Martins under the “Empowering Communities to Empower Themselves” (ECTET) initiative. These community resource hubs will be the centers for entrepreneurial and vocational training to create alternatives to gang activity in underserved neighborhoods long associated with gang violence. The ECTET Initiative received funding from U.S. Embassy Public Affairs aimed at improving citizen security and increasing economic prosperity.

U.S. Government Delivers COVID-19 Response Supplies to NEMO

On December 14, the U.S. Embassy delivered COVID-19 response equipment and supplies valued at over U.S. $37,000 to Belize’s National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO) at the Price Barracks in Ladyville, Belize. Major Matthew Adams, U.S. Embassy Belmopan Office of Security Cooperation Chief, represented the U.S. Embassy when handing over the items.

U.S. Government Provides Curriculum Advisor and Equipment to Improve Training for Belize’s Police Department

The United States Embassy introduced the Curriculum Development Advisor Dr. Priscilla Brown and initiated the handover of Caribbean Basin Security Initiative (CBSI) – Connect training equipment at the ceremony on December 10 at the Police Training Academy. U.S. Chargé d’Affaires, a.i. Keith Gilges welcomed Dr. Priscilla Brown and presented the equipment to the Belize Police Department.

U.S. Government Delivers Fire Truck to Ladyville Fire Station

The United States Embassy delivered a Fire Truck to Belize’s Ladyville Village Council and Fire Station at a November 23 handover ceremony in Ladyville. U.S. Chargé d’Affaires, a.i. Keith Gilges presented the fire truck to Fire Chief Colin Gillett, of Belize’s National Fire Service.

U.S. Government Delivers Emergency Kits to NEMO

The United States Embassy delivered US$20,000 in supplies to Belize’s National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO) at a July 16 handover ceremony in Belmopan. U.S. Chargé d’Affaires, a.i. Keith Gilges presented the food packs and hygiene kits to NEMO Director Shelton Defour.

Signing of Memorandum of Cooperation between Belize Customs and Excise Department and the Department of Homeland Security, US Customs and Border Protection

The Belize Customs and Excise Department and the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) signed a mutually beneficial Memorandum of Cooperation that provides for collaboration on and implementation of an information sharing program utilizing cargo manifest and conveyance information.
