Parking meters on Barrier Reef Drive still a go
The San Pedro Town Council (SPTC) is still working out details to launch their parking meter pilot project on Barrier Reef Drive (Front Street) to alleviate the traffic congestion in the downtown area. According to the island administration, there is no definite time to launch the project. Mayor Gualberto ‘Wally’ Nuñez said the project is underway, but first, they need to prepare an alternate parking area inside the Honourable Louis Sylvestre Sporting Arena (Saca Chispas field). Mayor Nuñez also touched on some factors affecting the parking issue downtown, like golf cart rentals taking up too much public space and adding to the congestion.

In a few weeks, island residents can expect to start paying for parking on Barrier Reef Drive (Front Street). The San Pedro Town Council (SPTC) has begun erecting parking meter posts along this busy street. The project, per the SPTC, is to alleviate the traffic congestion downtown, which has become an issue in San Pedro.

Councilors at the San Pedro Town Council (SPTC) have started a project designed to keep the streets of downtown clean. The initiative will target Barrier Reef Drive, Pescador Drive, and Angel Coral Street. The plan is to thoroughly clean one of these main streets every Sunday to keep the commercial area of the island clean and attractive for residents and visitors.

Now that students have returned to in-person classes, it is imperative to address vehicular congestion during peak hours to ensure their safety and that of other pedestrians, including tourists. As such, the San Pedro Town Council (SPTC) has set a schedule for large delivery trucks to alleviate the traffic and avoid potential accidents.

SPTC to implement parking restrictions on Pescador Drive
Effective February 1, 2020, drivers will be required to parallel park on Pescador Drive. This new measure, implemented by The San Pedro Town Council (SPTC) and the island’s traffic department, seek to ensure the safety of all pedestrians, particularly children, who used the narrow street on their way to school.
