Government to Open Western Border for Cargo Clearance on Saturdays

The Government of Belize announces the opening of the Benque Viejo Border for cargo clearance on Saturdays, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (Belize time) effective July 22, 2023. This decision stems from discussions with Belize's National Trade Facilitation Committee (NTFC) aimed at implementing the 2014 agreement between Belize and Guatemala to extend operating hours at the border.

Made in Belize Tradeshow a Success

The Belize Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s fifth annual Made in Belize Trade Show was held on June 4th, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Governor General Field in the City of Belmopan under the theme “Buy in Belize, Build Belize, Support your own homegrown.” The purpose of this Trade Show was to promote goods and services that are “Made in Belize.”  

CDB Delegation Concludes Inaugural Visit to Belize

The inaugural visit of Dr. Gene Leon, President of the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB), and his delegation to Belize included discussions with the Prime Minister and Cabinet, the Central Bank of Belize, engagement with private sector entities including the Belize Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Citrus Growers Association, and meetings with entities executing projects with CDB support.

Expect to pay more for goods if tensions between stevedores and Port of Belize is not resolved

The cost and even the availability of certain goods may be significantly affected in the coming days due to disruptions at Port of Belize Limited in Belize City. A stand-off between the port and stevedores led by the Christian Workers’ Union had led to an industrial action that has stalled the shipping services at the country’s busiest port. If not adequately addressed, the situation could have dire financial consequences for the country’s economy.
