The Ministry of Rural Transformation, Community Development, Labour, and Local Government is hosting a three-day validation workshop for the Decent Work Country Diagnostic from November 28 to 30 in Belize City. The Diagnostic is a key step in the design phase of a new Decent Work Country Programme (DWCP) for Belize.

Government to Open Western Border for Cargo Clearance on Saturdays
The Government of Belize announces the opening of the Benque Viejo Border for cargo clearance on Saturdays, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (Belize time) effective July 22, 2023. This decision stems from discussions with Belize's National Trade Facilitation Committee (NTFC) aimed at implementing the 2014 agreement between Belize and Guatemala to extend operating hours at the border.

Belize Chamber of Commerce and Industry weighs in on Minimum Wage Increase
A release from the Government of Belize explained that the new increase in the minimum wage is a strategy to combat poverty and reduce inequality. Despite the reasons behind this change, the Belize Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) has objected to such implementation because it will add significantly to the private sector’s wage bill.

A decision by the Government of Belize to increase the mandatory age for school enrollment from ages 14 to 16 has been well received among Belizeans and organizations countrywide. The government said that it is a step in the right direction in preparing young Belizeans for life.

Made in Belize Tradeshow a Success
The Belize Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s fifth annual Made in Belize Trade Show was held on June 4th, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Governor General Field in the City of Belmopan under the theme “Buy in Belize, Build Belize, Support your own homegrown.” The purpose of this Trade Show was to promote goods and services that are “Made in Belize.”
