Digital Connect Center launched in San Pedro
On Wednesday, August 30th, the San Pedro Town Council (SPTC), BELTRAIDE, and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) gathered at the public library to officially unveil a project to assist island entrepreneurs with digital tools to improve their online presence. The new Digital Connect Center located on the second floor of the public library building is equipped with computers, and it will soon be opened to those needing this resource to enhance their business strategies and better promote their products and services.

The Belize Chamber of Commerce & Industry’s 6th annual Made In Belize Trade Show was held on Saturday, June 3rd 2023 from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm at the National Agriculture and Trade Show Grounds in the City of Belmopan. Under the theme “Buy in Belize, Build Belize, Support your local homegrown.”

Belize Participates in Americas Competitiveness Exchange (ACE) in Seattle, Washington
Dr. Leroy Almendarez, Executive Director of BELTRAIDE is among 60 senior-level government, business, policy and economic decision-makers from 20 countries across the Americas who attended the Americas Competitiveness Exchange (ACE). The exchange was held from May 14 – May 19, 2023, grants participants a first-hand look at the greater Seattle, Washington region’s economic, innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem.

Designated Processing Areas Act Legislative Amendment Consultation
On March 29, 2023, the Investment Policy and Compliance Unit (IPCU) in the Ministry of Investment organized a consultation with companies that benefit from the Designated Processing Areas (DPA) Act. The objective of the consultation was to apprise the private sector stakeholders of the proposed amendments.

SIB’s April report shows decline in exports and increase in consumer prices
The April report from the Statistical Institute of Belize (SIB) notes that domestic exports declined by 13.6%, or $6.2 million, compared to the same period last year. According to the report, the sugar and banana products reflected the decrease in exports. In comparison, consumer prices rose by 5.8%. The areas/services affected included vehicle fuels, food, and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG).

Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed between BELTRAIDE and His Highness (H.H) Sheikh Ahmed Bin Faisal Al-Qassimi of Sharjah, United Arab Emirates (UAE)
On Friday, April 1st, 2022, an MOU was signed at Sharjah, United Arab Emirates (UAE) between Belize, represented by BELTRAIDE Chairman, Mrs. Narda Garcia and Executive Director, Dr. Leroy Almendarez and the private office of His Highness Sheikh Ahmed Bin Faisal Al Qassimi, represented by His Highness Sheikh Ahmed Bin Faisal Al Qassimi, a member of the Royal Family of the Cities of Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah, UAE (the Parties). The purpose of the MOU is to provide for and promote cooperation and collaboration between the Parties in the field of Foreign Direct Investments inflow to Belize.
