Investigation reveals early morning fire in DFC home was deliberately ignited

An investigation led by the local fire service into the cause of a blaze that destroyed four golf carts and damaged the front part of a house in the DFC subdivision south of San Pedro Town has been classified as an incendiary (arson) fire. The tragedy significantly affected Evelyn Cordon, 37, and her family. They need help, and if anyone can assist, they can be reached at 614-7280.

BWS holds presentation on a water expansion project for south San Pedro

Belize Water Services (BWS) continues working hard on several infrastructural projects across San Pedro Town, Ambergris Caye, to upgrade potable water delivery. The company’s next project includes expanding water networks in prioritized service areas south of town. This includes Eiley/Marina Drive, DFC, and San Marcos subdivisions. To introduce the proposed project, on Friday, December 16th, BWS personnel were in the Marina Drive neighborhood conducting a consultation with residents of that area.

Solar lights installed along San Pedrito Highway, illegal dumping still a problem

The San Pedrito Highway has been the site of major illegal dumping over the years, with the problem still not thoroughly addressed. The lack of lighting is another issue reported by residents. This problem has now been addressed with the installation of solar lights through a collaborative effort between stakeholders and the San Pedro Town Council (SPTC).

SPTC plans to rehabilitate streets with climate-resilient infrastructure

The need for better street infrastructure has been an everlasting issue experienced by San Pedro Town residents. Although the San Pedro Town Council (SPTC) administration has embarked on different rehabilitation projects, islanders continue to call for more improvements, such as upgrading the drainage system in areas prone to flooding. The SPTC is committed to addressing the situation, and one of their upcoming projects is to put in place longer-lasting paved and concrete climate resilient infrastructure.

Second non-fatal shooting within the week on La Isla Bonita

A second shooting incident was reported in San Pedro Town on Monday, July 12th, in the DFC subdivision. One person identified as 25-year-old Joshua Gongora, received gunshot injuries.  He was transported to the Dr. Otto Rodriguez San Pedro Polyclinic II, where he was treated and airlifted to Belize City, where he remains stable. Several persons were reportedly detained for questioning, but no reports of charges have been issued as yet.
