Business Establishments Warned on the Sale of Expired Goods

The sale of expired goods is not only prohibited but also poses a serious health hazard to the public. In San Pedro Town, Ambergris Caye, the office of the Public Health Inspector continues to monitor establishments suspected of keeping expired products on their shelves. Routine inspections have led to the removal and destruction of such goods, and repeat offenders risk legal action and prosecution.

Measles Contained in Belize as Public Health Measures Prove Effective

On July 21, 2025, Belize’s health officials reported no new measles cases for more than two full incubation periods. This marks the formal end of the outbreak that began in early April and resulted in 34 confirmed cases, primarily in the Corozal and Cayo districts. The outbreak was initially linked to tourists returning from Mexico and affected only unvaccinated individuals.

Belizean Journalists receive training on how to report on mental health issues and suicide

The Ministry of Health and Wellness (MOHW) hosted a mental health and suicide training session for the media on April 29th and 30th. The goal of the training was to equip journalists with the skills to report responsibly on mental illness and suicide in a way that does not jeopardize victims or convey harmful messages. The two-day event occurred at the Best Western Plus Belize Biltmore in Belize City, where news reporters, influencers, and communication officers learned new techniques for addressing this sensitive topic.

Measles cases reported in Belize, MOHW encourages vaccination

The Ministry of Health and Wellness (MOHW) has increased surveillance at entry points, particularly at international airports, after two measles cases were detected in the country. The affected individuals are two teenagers who recently returned from a trip to Mexico. According to the MOHW, they have been isolated while the ministry monitors for other potential cases. The recommended preventive measure is to receive the Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR) vaccine, available at health centers nationwide.

Ministry of Health and Wellness continues assisting children with cancer in Merida

Children in Belize who are diagnosed with cancer continue to receive medical assistance from the Ministry of Health and Wellness (MOHW). This help comes through services provided by Hospital General Agustín O'Horán in Merida, Mexico. This arrangement is possible due to a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that was signed in October 2015.

Belize receives over 130k doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine

The doses were made available through a partnership with UNICEF and the African Union’s African Vaccine Acquisition Trust. Present for the arrival was Dr. Melissa Diaz Musa, Deputy Regional Manager, Central Health Region, on behalf of the Ministry of Health and Wellness (MOHW), and Ms. Paulett Wade, Monitoring and Evaluation Officer, UNICEF Belize.
