Elections and Boundaries Depertment launches Belize Municipal Election 2024 App

The Elections and Boundaries Department (EBD) is pleased to announce the launch of the Belize Municipal Elections 2024 App— an innovative and interactive platform that will provide reliable and timely information on voter turnout as well as the results of the upcoming elections, to be held on Wednesday, 6 March 2024.

Public Notice: Election Offences

The Elections and Boundaries Department hereby reminds the general public that the following are election offences in connection with the upcoming Municipal Elections scheduled to be held on Wednesday, 6th March 2024.

Nomination Day – Wednesday, 21 February 2024

The Elections and Boundaries Department hereby notifies the general public and persons who wish to contest the upcoming Municipal Elections that Nomination Day has been set for WEDNESDAY, 21st February 2024, between the hours of 10:00a.m. and 4:00p.m.

Cut–Off Date for Registration of Persons Who Wish to Vote in the Upcoming Municipal Elections 2024

The Elections and Boundaries Department hereby notifies the general public that in accordance with the Cities and Town Councils Acts, the date for the upcoming Municipal Elections is Wednesday, 6th March 2024. In this regard, the cut-off date for accepting applications for registration of persons who wish to vote in the 6th March 2024 Municipal Elections is at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, 10th January 2024.

Local Government Resumes Municipal Boundaries Re-Delineation Exercise

Following Cabinet's decision in July 2021, the Department of Local Government resumed activities to complete the Municipal Boundaries Re-Delineation Exercise that began in 2012.

Re-Opening of Elections and Boundaries Registration Offices

The Elections and Boundaries Department informs the public that all Registration Offices countrywide will be open to the public effective Monday, May 4, 2020, during the hours of 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Elections and Boundaries Department classifies on Representation of the People Act

The Elections and Boundaries Department wishes to advise the general public that the Representation of the People Act clearly outlines the process and steps that are required to be taken prior to any individual becoming a registered elector. As such, the department operates strictly within the rule of law.

Restriction on Sale of Intoxicating Liquor on Election Day

The Elections and Boundaries Department hereby reminds the public and liquor license holders of Rule 12 of the Village Council (Elections) Regulations 2009 (Statutory Instrument No. 134 of 2009) which states that every person who is the holder of a liquor license granted under the Intoxicating Liquor Licensing Act shall be prohibited from the sale of all forms of intoxicating liquor during the period from the opening of nominations right up to the announcing of the results.
