San Pedro Town Council addresses complaints about garbage collection

Over the past weeks, San Pedro residents have been raising concerns about the garbage collection across the island. They claim garbage is not picked up promptly, causing inconveniences to their daily routines. To address the situation, the San Pedro Town Council (SPTC) has set up a schedule to cover all the subdivisions and collect garbage on time every week. Residents are asked to take note of this schedule which will let them know which days rubbish will be picked up from their respective areas.

SPTC admits to issues within the Sanitation Department and garbage collection

The island administration says that they are trying to secure funds to update their equipment and zoning the main areas of town for a more organized trash collection. It was clear, however, that some of the plans discussed to tackle the issue were the same as last year’s resolutions; house to house educational campaigns, hiring additional staff to engage the community, and consequences if SPTC rules are not met.

New garbage collection regulations implemented by SPTC

Effective Friday, May 4th, all garbage containers must be placed inside the yards of residential and commercial areas. This new regulation also demands that all garbage bins must be easily accessible by its sanitation personnel for disposal, and warns that failure to follow this new rule will result in the removal of their garbage containers from the street.
