Donation of Buildings and Vehicles Broadens U.S. Security Assistance to Belize

As U.S. support to bolster regional security continues, U.S. Ambassador Michelle Kwan commemorated the donation of five buildings, a fleet of vehicles, and office equipment to the Belize Police Department. At a ceremony held at the Police Headquarters, Minister of Home Affairs Hon. Kareem Musa and Police Commissioner Chester Williams received the donation on behalf of the government and people of Belize.

USAID-Funded InfoSegura Project Continues to Support Citizen Security in Belize

Continuing America’s efforts to support improvements in Belize’s citizen security, U.S. Embassy Acting Political and Economic Chief Sydney Skov and United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Belize Deputy Resident Representative Ian King donated Information Communication Technology (ICT) equipment to Minister of Home Affairs and New Growth Industries Hon. Kareem Musa on December 1, 2022.

United States-funded UNDP-InfoSegura Project Invests in Belize’s Future Crime Intelligence Architecture

In support of Belize’s effort to enhance its national security and strengthen inter-agency crime-data sharing, the U.S. Embassy presided over a donation that included a high-powered Dell server and three Dell workstations with high-quality monitors on July 28, 2022. This equipment will support improvements in data management by the Belize Police Department and the National Forensic Science Service. The goal is to strengthen inter-agency data sharing, through the Belize Crime Observatory— the national repository of crime data and information—so that criminal investigations can be swift, thorough, and assure justice.

U.S.-Belize Bilateral Security Meeting Tracks Advancement on Shared National Security Objectives

U.S. Embassy Belmopan and the Government of Belize met on July 20, 2022, to reaffirm the U.S.-Belize security partnership. Bi-annual bilateral meetings between the United States and Belize underscore our shared commitment to deepening cooperation to meet national and regional challenges, such as narcotrafficking, human smuggling and trafficking, and gang violence. In this engagement, both governments discussed shared priorities in the areas of citizen and border security, governance, and justice sector efficiency.

Launch of the Joint Sexual Violence Prevention and Response Programme

Hon. Florencio Marin, Jr., Minister of National Defence and Border Security, and Hon. Kareem Musa, Minister of Home Affairs and New Growth Industries, in conjunction with the EU-UN Spotlight Initiative, launched the Joint Sexual Violence Prevention and Response (JSVPR) Programme for the security forces. The launch of the JSVPR was held at the Belize Biltmore Plaza in Belize City on 17 February 2022 and will support the Belize Police Department, the Belize Defence Force, and the Belize Coast Guard.
