Belize to Observe World AIDS Day 2022
On December 1, 2022, Belize will join the global community to commemorate World AIDS Day in solidarity with the families of those who have died and are living with HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus).

Health and Care Day held in San Pedro
On Friday, June 17th, the San Pedro Chapter of the Belize Red Cross, with support from the San Pedro Lions Club and in collaboration with the San Pedro Town Council, hosted a community health and care day at Central Park. Despite the inclement weather, the fair saw a good turnout, and those who came out learned more about the health services offered by the different agencies participating.

UNDP and the Global Fund supports the Ministry of Health & Wellness through the Delivery Covid ICU Medication, HIV/Syphilis Kits and Taq-Path PCR Tests
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in partnership with the Ministry of Health and Wellness and the National AIDS Commission, under the framework of the Global Fund project titled “Building Resilience Through Innovation and National Accountability for the HIV and TB Response in Belize.” Conducted a handing over activity in Belmopan on March 2nd. The donation included 2,000 individual HIV/Syphilis tests valued at USD4,800, Covid Intensive Care Unit medication valued at USD10,681.9, along with 5 Taqpath Covid 19 CE-IVD RT-PCR Kits valued at USD35,355.

Dr. Giovanni Solorzano takes the reins of the National AIDS Commission
San Pedro’s very own Dr. Giovanni Solorzano is the new Chairperson of the National AIDS Commission (NAC) and Country Coordinating Mechanism. The Office of the Prime Minister appointed Dr. Solorzano, replacing the previous Chairperson, Laura Tucker-Longsworth.

Equal Opportunities Bill discussed at public consultation in San Pedro Town
The project, championed by the National AIDS Commission, includes discussions about an Equal Opportunities Bill in which the Belizean population is consulted and informed of the benefits, should the proposed idea become law.

To commemorate National AIDS Testing Day, the National AIDS Commission along with San Pedro’s AIDs Commission and the Ministry of Health held a free HIV testing day at the Central Park in San Pedro Town on Friday, June 28th.
