Over $30K missing from San Pedro Solid Waste Management Authority
The San Pedro Police formation is investigating a matter at the island’s Solid Waste Management Authority branch in which $30,335 is missing following an audit. The audit was on the tipping fees collected from customers at the San Pedro transfer station from March 4, 2022, to February 15, 2023.

SPTC appeals to islanders to help keep Ambergris Caye’s beaches and public areas clean
Keeping the island’s beaches and other public areas free of trash has been an ongoing battle in San Pedro, Ambergris Caye. Even though the efforts of the sanitation department at the San Pedro Town Council (SPTC) are conducting daily beach clean-ups, particularly in the Boca del Rio area, the improper disposal of garbage continues to be a challenge. To address the situation, the SPTC is reaching out to residents in these areas to cooperate and better dispose of their rubbish by properly bagging it before sanitation personnel picks it up.

Minister of Tourism meets with island authorities; plans discussed on how to improve tourism product
The Minister of Tourism and Diaspora Relations, Honourable Anthony Mahler, visited San Pedro Town on Wednesday, May 5th, where he met with Area Representative the Honourable Andre Perez and Mayor Gualberto ‘Wally’ Nuñez to discuss the tourism needs of the island and how to deal with the Sargassum influx. Mahler has been touring the different tourism areas across the country. His stop on the La Isla Bonita emphasized the need for a plan to continue growing tourism at this popular destination.
