Belize Elected to Economic and Social Council
The United Nations General Assembly met on June 7th, 2021 to elect new members of the UN’s Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) by secret ballot. Belize won, by a wide margin, one of the three seats assigned to the Latin America and Caribbean region on the council for the term 2022 to 2024.

Belize is one of the First Countries to Support New Global Alliance “30by30”
The 30by30 initiative is a call to action for at least a 30% target of the global ocean to be under protected status as marine protected areas by the year 2030. This call was first made by the Government of the United Kingdom at the United Nations General Assembly last year, at which Belize was represented by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Honourable Wilfred Elrington.
