Belize Receives Safe Travels Stamp from World Travel & Tourism Council

The Belize Tourism Board (BTB) is pleased to announce that Belize has achieved the Safe Travels Stamp, granted by the World Travel &Tourism Council (WTTC). The Safe Travels Stamp, the first global safety and hygiene stamp, was awarded to Belize in late December 2020 in recognition of the country’s enhanced health and safety protocols.

Tourism slowly returns to the Cayes; new government COVID-19 legislation affects island businesses

The primary fuel for the economy in San Pedro Town, Ambergris Caye, and Caye Caulker is tourism, which had been absent for months after the COVID-19 pandemic arrived in March 2020. The fragile industry was rebooted in October 2020 with the re-opening of the Philip Goldson International Airport. Still, it was not until late December that encouraging movement was observed on the Cayes. Tourism stakeholders were busy with international visitors during the Christmas and New Year’s holidays, despite the newly introduced COVID-19 regulations passed by the government.

Belize Welcomes Direct Flight From Denver, Colorado

United Airlines is now offering a direct flight from Denver, Colorado to Belize. The inaugural flight touched down at the Philip Goldson Airport (PGIA) in Belize on Saturday, December 19th as part of the airline’s service expansion to Mexico, the Caribbean and Latin America. The Denver flight is seasonal, and will be available on Saturdays up until March 2021.

IDB Invest promotes the development of tourism in Belize through Atlantic Bank

IDB Invest, a member of the IDB Group, will provide a loan to Atlantic Bank Limited (Atlantic Bank) for US$20 million with a three-year tenor. The financing will promote the growth of Atlantic’s micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) portfolio in Belize including tourism, a sector deeply affected by COVID-19.

Minister of Tourism & Diaspora Relations along with Minister of Health and Wellness do walkthrough at PGIA

Hon. Anthony Mahler, Minister of Tourism and Diaspora Relations, along with Hon. Michel Chebat, Minister of Health and Wellness made a visit to the Phillip Goldson International Airport on December 4th. The purpose of their joint visit was to personally observe flight arrival protocols with a view to addressing immediate concerns received from the tourism private sector.

Placencia Municipal Airport is officially inaugurated

The newly inaurated airport can now facilitate later flights on a daily basis as well as emergency medivac flights to and from the Placencia Peninsula.

Placencia Municipal Airport rehabilitation completed

An official inauguration of the rehabilitated Placencia Peninsula airstrip will take place on Friday, December 4th.

Hon. Anthony Mahler is Belize’s New Tourism Minister

Hon. Anthony Mahler was officially sworn in as Minister of Tourism and Diaspora Relations on Monday, November 16th, 2020. He was appointed by the newly elected Prime Minister after the country’s general elections, which were held on Wednesday, November 11th, 2020. Minister Mahler is no stranger to tourism, and is fully committed to the work ahead.
