San Pedro stakeholders not happy with regulations on alcohol sales and business operations during the Christmas weekend

On Thursday, December 22nd, a couple of stakeholders in San Pedro Town voiced their dissatisfaction with the current set of regulations regarding the sale of alcohol and opening hours for different establishments over the Christmas weekend. The regulations set by the Belize Police Department are said to be unfair, and the stakeholders on the island say they will be significantly affected due to restrictions requiring businesses to close by midnight.

Belize Police Department issues regulations on the sale of alcohol during Christmas holidays

The Commissioner of Police, Chester Williams, said on Wednesday, December 21st, that during the mentioned periods, as highlighted below, no liquor should be exposed for sale, sold, consumed, or delivered on such premises during the period when they are required to be closed. ComPol stressed that no persons other than the license holders or the employees should be on the licensed premises. In addition, no liquor should be sold in a restaurant except to a customer buying a full meal and consuming an alcoholic beverage with it.

Belize Marketing & Development Cooperation opens branch in San Pedro showcasing Belizean products

On Friday, December 2nd, the Belize Marketing and Development Corporation (BMDC) opened its fifth branch in San Pedro Town, Ambergris Caye. The facility on the island offers Belizean products such as jam, jellies, pepper sauces, honey, crafts, cooking oils, ointments, rice, sugar, local sweets, seasonings, alcoholic beverages, vegetables, dairy products, meats, and other items made in Belize by Belizean entrepreneurs. The branch is on Pescador Drive, across from the Smart office, and they are open Monday through Friday, 8AM to Noon and 1- 5PM.

All those trips to the Capital City of Belmopan to register a business with the Belize Companies and Corporate Affairs Registry (BCCAR) may soon be a thing of the past as registration will now be digital. The project created by Prime Minister Honourable Dr. John Briceño reached the central municipalities across the country and was geared toward supporting businesses under the MSME category. The pop-up market at Central Park in San Pedro brought several companies from the island and the mainland showcasing various Belizean products.
