Calendar of events for the San Pedro Lobster Festival announced

While Caye Caulker is not hosting their annual lobster fest due to COVID-19, the anticipated event, which celebrates the opening of the lobster season, is set to take place in San Pedro Town. On Friday, June 11th, the San Pedro Lobster Festival committee announced a schedule of events revealing the different venues of this year’s Lobster Crawl. Traditionally this culminates with a block party at Central Park; however, there will be no block party this year.

Scottish toy pirate ship, A2, sailing off the coast of Cuba

The adventurous Scottish toy pirate ship, Adventure II or A2, continues its trek back home to Europe, sailing the Atlantic Ocean with its current location just north of Cuba. The acclaimed Playmobil, which spent several days in Belize between January and February of this year, is sailing at an average speed of 1.1 knots and remains on course. It is anticipated to pass Miami, Florida, USA by this weekend.

Forest Department Successfully Captures of Jaguar in Southern Belize

On Monday, December 28, 2020, the Forest Department with support from the Belize Zoo and the Ya’axche Conservation Trust responded to a report of a young male jaguar which was captured in Pine Hills, Toledo District. The jaguar was successfully relocated to the Belize Zoo. The Forest Department recognizes that the livelihood and safety of people are important, and we continue to work along with farmers to prevent any further attacks by jaguars on livestock.

A historic MOU to develop the first Film and Media School in Belize has been signed between Galen University and the Office of the Belize Film Commissioner (OBFC).
