Mobile Health Clinic continues to promote healthy living in San Pedro
In a continuing effort to promote healthy lifestyles in San Pedro Town, Area Representative Honourable Andre Perez and partners organized another installment of the Mobile Health Clinic on Friday, October 14th. Held at the Sagebrush Belize Campus in the Boca Del Rio Area, the initiative is a collaboration between Perez, the San Pedro Town Council, PAHO Belize, the Ministry of Health and Wellness, and the San Pedro Lions Club. Throughout the day, island residents benefited from information on leading a healthy lifestyle and free consultations with medical specialists.

Concert to benefit children with cancer draws the crowds in San Pedro
San Pedranos enjoyed the long holiday weekend with a special concert to benefit children with cancer on the island. The ' Capullo de Rosa’ event was held on Saturday, October 7th, at the Honourable Louis Sylvester Sporting Arena with a lineup of local and international artists. With the main event featuring Peruvian star Rossy War, the concert to benefit children with cancer was deemed a success.

Single dose HPV vaccine now available at health facilities countrywide
The Human Papillomavirus, or HPV, is the most common sexually transmitted disease in many countries. This infection can cause cervical and other cancers affecting the genital areas, including the throat. While previously two doses of the HPV vaccine were recommended for adolescents, the Ministry of Health and Wellness (MOHW) has approved a vaccine that only requires a single dose. This is in part of a recommendation by the World Health Organization’s Strategic Advisory Group of Experts on Immunization, who have stated that a single dose is sufficient to protect against an initial or persistent HPV infection.

MOHW Receives Medical Supplies Donation
In collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism and Diaspora Relations, the Straughan & Sigler Foundation, Belize Chinese Association and Build Belize Inc. donated medical supplies and equipment to the Ministry of Health & Wellness (MOHW). This collaborative effort is anticipated to significantly enhance the quality of healthcare in Belize. The donation, valued at over BZ$100,000, will be distributed to health facilities throughout the country.

MOHW Minister Hon. Kevin Bernard tours San Pedro Polyclinic; staff kitchen room get appliances
On Thursday, September 7th, the Minister of Health and Wellness (MOHW), the Honourable Kevin Bernard, visited San Pedro Town and stopped at Dr. Otto Rodriguez San Pedro Polyclinic II to discuss how his ministry can assist the island’s main referral health facility. Area Representative Honourable Andre Perez and San Pedro Lions Club members accompanied the minister during his tour of the facilities. The visit also saw the government representatives donate a stove, gas tank, and television set for the staff kitchen room.

San Pedro’s Dr. Joshua Canul awarded a Chevening scholarship
Dr. Joshua A. Canul is preparing to leave the country to pursue a Master’s degree in Applied Infectious Disease Epidemiology at the University College London. The British High Commission in Belize confirmed that Dr. Canul was awarded a Chevening scholarship recently to pursue such studies in the United Kingdom (UK). The island doctor has been at the Dr. Otto Rodriguez San Pedro Polyclinic II since 2018, treating San Pedranos with acute and chronic illnesses, among other medical services.
