San Pedro Tiger Sharks suffer first loss in NEBL

On Saturday, March 28th, the San Pedro Tiger Sharks recorded their first loss in the National Elite Basketball League (NEBL), falling 88-74 to the Belize City Defenders. The island team battled through all four quarters, but the Defenders maintained control in the final period to secure the win.
The match, held at the Belize Civic Center, was action-packed from the first quarter. The Tiger Sharks initially took the lead, but the Defenders quickly closed the gap, with the first quarter ending in a 23-23 tie.
In the second quarter, the Defenders pulled ahead, leaving the Tiger Sharks trailing. Despite continued pressure from the island squad, the Defenders found ways to maintain their advantage, closing the quarter 26-19 in their favor.
The Tiger Sharks responded strongly in the third quarter, showing renewed determination and capitalizing on key scoring opportunities, including several three-pointers. Their efforts paid off as they claimed the quarter 21-13.
The intensity increased in the final quarter, with the Defenders regaining control of the scoreboard. While the Tiger Sharks attempted to close the gap, the Defenders continued to penetrate their defense and extend their lead. The fourth quarter ended 26-11, sealing the 88-74 victory for Belize City.
Other games over the weekend saw the EZ Investment Griga Dream Ballers defeat the Belmopan Trojans 103-89, while the Orange Walk Running Rebels beat the Corozal Spartans 87-76.
Following the loss, the San Pedro Tiger Sharks now sit in second place in the NEBL standings with nine points. The Orange Walk Running Rebels lead with 10 points, while the Cayo Western Ballaz are in third place with eight points.
Top performers for the Tiger Sharks included Conner Jackson with 18 points, Devin Moody with 13 points, and Eyan Rene and Edward Hampton, who each contributed 17 points. For the Defenders, Ajang Aguek led with 24 points, followed by Shane Pratt with 23. Bobby Williams Jr. added 15 points, while John Kelly chipped in with 11.
The next round of games is scheduled for April 10th, with the EZ Investment Griga Dream Ballers facing the Belize City Defenders. On April 11th, the San Pedro Tiger Sharks will take on league leaders Orange Walk Running Rebels in Belize City. The weekend will conclude with the Cayo Western Ballaz facing the Corozal Spartans.
