MoEST Joins #ActOnFacts: The Food in Our Schools Matters Campaign

The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (MoEST) joins the #ActOnFacts: The Food in Our Schools Matters campaign. This regional initiative, led by the Healthy Caribbean Coalition (HCC), in collaboration with UNICEF, the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) Commission, the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA), and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), aims to continue building momentum for healthier school food environments across the Caribbean.

Tourism and Health: Belize takes steps to strengthen its response to pandemics

Three years ago, the tourism industry came to a halt when the COVID-19 pandemic shut down the county. Belize’s Health Sector was put to the test, as relevant agencies worked round the clock to ensure the safety and well-being of the community and prevent mass fatalities. Fast forward to 2023, every day life for Belizeans has returned to normalcy, and the strict health regulation for the COVID-19 pandemic seems to be a distant memory. However, the tourism and health sectors were left wanting to learn from this pandemic to be better prepared for the next one.

NEMO Belize Rural South producing COVID-19 preparedness signs in San Pedro Town

In response to the increase of COVID-19 cases within the Caribbean region, the National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO) branch in Ambergris Caye has produced a number of laminated preparedness signs to be distributed all over the island. The signs will be delivered within the week to restaurants, bars, coffee shops, hoteliers, gyms, and grocery stores on the island by a NEMO team member. Ministry of Health Advisory No. 7 – Update on COVID-19

The Ministry of Health is aware of the upgraded risk of COVID-19 to ‘very high’ for the Caribbean as published by the Caribbean Public Health Agency. The Ministry assures that its preparation process continues in this regard. The upgrade was determined based on the increasing number of confirmed cases expanding worldwide to approximately 84 countries to date. The threat for a case to be confirmed in Belize is now more imminent with cases now in the Caribbean, confirmed imported cases in Mexico, and Costa Rica confirming their first case today, March 6th.

Food service workers trained in advanced safety practices

Members of the hospitality industry participated in an advanced safe food practice training at the National Emergency Management Organization in San Pedro Town from Wednesday, April 25th through to Friday, April 27th.
