Belize Hosts the Strategic Alliances International Partners Conference

The Government of Belize is hosted the Strategic Alliances International Partners Conference under the theme “Unlocking Climate Finance and Disaster Risk Financing for Sustainable Development.” The event was opened this morning by Hon. John Briceño, Prime Minister of Belize, and featured remarks by Hon. Francis Fonseca, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade, Education, Culture, Science and Technology, and H.E. Amalia Mai, Chief Executive Officer in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade. It aims to strengthen dialogue with Belize’s development partners and enhance collaboration on initiatives for sustainable growth.

IDB supports Urban Development Transformation and Efficiency in Healthcare Services in Belize

The Executive Vice President of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), Jordan Schwartz, and the Prime Minister of Belize, Hon. John Briceño, signed loan contracts and related non-reimbursable grant agreements to finance two new programs aimed at enhancing healthcare services and promoting sustainable urban development in Belize, respectively. The signing took place on Friday, 30th August 2024, during the Third High-Level Dialogue of the Regional Climate Change Platform of Finance and Economy Ministries in San Pedro, Ambergris Caye.

Prime Minister Hosts Meeting with APAMO to Establish a Working Group

On August 19, Hon. John Briceño, Prime Minister of Belize, hosted a meeting with the executive members of the Association of Protected Areas Management Organization (APAMO) with a goal of reaching a consensus on a collaborative path forward.

Prime Minister Announces New Portfolio Assignments

After due consideration and consultation, Prime Minister Briceño announces the following changes to the current composition of Cabinet. The Prime Minister has invited Hon. Andre Perez to return as a Minister of Cabinet, with responsibility for the portfolios of Blue Economy and Disaster Risk Management. Minister Perez now assumes control of NEMO and the National Fire Service.

Parliament Signs Record of Donation of Grant from the Republic of China (Taiwan) for Renovations of the National Assembly Building

On December 5, 2023, parliamentarians of the National Assembly of Belize officially recognized a donation that the Republic of China (Taiwan) will make toward substantial renovations of the National Assembly building in Belmopan. The Government and people of the Republic of China (Taiwan) have committed to a donation of US$792,125.30, which will be used to modernize the infrastructure of National Assembly building.

On October 20, 2023, the Government of Belize convened a high-level meeting in Miami, Florida, engaging with top executives from leading member cruise lines of the Florida-Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA).

Minister of Foreign Affairs Hosts Inaugural Meeting of the International Cooperation Council

On September 4, 2023, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade and Immigration and the Ministry of Finance, Economic Development & Investment convened the inaugural meeting of the International Cooperation Council (ICC). The meeting was hosted and chaired by Hon. Eamon Courtenay, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade & Immigration.

Belize and the Republic of Korea Sign Historic Cooperation Framework Agreement

Respective delegations met in Seoul on August 1 for the negotiation of a Framework Agreement for Grant Aid between the governments of Belize and the Republic of Korea. The agreement promotes poverty reduction and the sustainable economic, trade and investment, and social development of Belize through grant aid from the Republic of Korea. It also further strengthens the collaborative relations between the two countries.
