Minister of Foreign Affairs Hosts Inaugural Meeting of the International Cooperation Council

On September 4, 2023, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade and Immigration and the Ministry of Finance, Economic Development & Investment convened the inaugural meeting of the International Cooperation Council (ICC). The meeting was hosted and chaired by Hon. Eamon Courtenay, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade & Immigration.

Belize and the Republic of Korea Sign Historic Cooperation Framework Agreement

Respective delegations met in Seoul on August 1 for the negotiation of a Framework Agreement for Grant Aid between the governments of Belize and the Republic of Korea. The agreement promotes poverty reduction and the sustainable economic, trade and investment, and social development of Belize through grant aid from the Republic of Korea. It also further strengthens the collaborative relations between the two countries.

Governments of Belize and Taiwan Sign Technical Cooperation Framework Agreement

Hon. Eamon H. Courtenay, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade and Immigration of Belize, and H.E. Jaushieh Joseph Wu, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China (Taiwan), signed a Technical Cooperation Framework Agreement on April 3, which will serve to establish further cooperation programmes between Belize and Taiwan in areas such as agriculture, forestry, fisheries, technology, education, climate change, youth and women, health, tourism and other areas of mutual consent. The signing was witnessed by Hon. John Briceño, Prime Minister of Belize, and H.E. Dr. Tsai Ing-Wen, President of the Republic of China (Taiwan).

Government of Belize Continues to Strengthen National Defence and Border Security

On December 21, 2022, Hon. John Briceño, Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Economic Development, and Investment, handed over 10 Troop Lifting Vehicles to the Ministry of National Defence and Border Security.

BPD and BDF Receive Equipment to Increase Citizen Security

On November 15, 2022, Hon. John Briceño, Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Economic Development, and Investment, handed over vehicles to the Belize Police Department (BPD) and computer equipment to the Belize Defence Force (BDF). The items were procured under the Belize Integral Security Programme (BISP), a BZ$60-million-dollar project funded by the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI), which is intended to strengthen the capacity of the BPD and BDF thereby enabling officers to provide increased security for citizens.

Government of Belize provides Fuel Price Update

The Ministry of Finance announces that effective today, March 24, 2022, the regulated pump price of regular gasoline is now prescribed at $13.50, representing an increase of 66 cents compared to the last shipment Belize received. Not only is this increase entirely attributable to the acquisition costs of the product but in order for the price to be kept at this level, the Government reduced all levies on regular fuel by 29 cents.

Prime Minister Briceño Meets with UN Secretary-General

Hon. John Briceño, Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Economic Development, and Investment, met with H.E. António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations. The Secretary-General welcomed the Prime Minister and expressed the UN’s commitment to continue assisting Belize. He commended Belize’s leadership within CARICOM and congratulated Belize for being elected to the United Nations Economic and Social Council.

Appointment of New Governor of the Central Bank of Belize

Governor General, Sir Colville Young GCMG MBE, on the advice of Prime Minister, Hon. John Briceno, Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Economic Development, and Investment, signed a Writ of Appointment naming Mr. Gustavo Manuel Vasquez as Governor of the Central Bank of Belize, with effect from 01 April 2021.
