Ministry of Labour commemorates Child Labour Campaign closing cermemony

On November 23rd, 2023, the Ministry of Rural Transformation, Community Development, Labour, and Local Government commemorated its Child Labour Campaign Closing Ceremony at the Biltmore Plaza Hotel, River Hall Room, Belize City, under the theme, “Eliminating Child Labour in Belize!”

Amnesty Program falls short of 60k goal

The Amnesty Program designed by the Government of Belize to help regularize undocumented migrants in the country is now closed. The project aimed to amend the immigration status of about 60,000 migrants living in the country but only received 12,765 applications from citizens of 32 countries. The government noted on Tuesday, November 7th, that those applications are currently at the vetting stage, with a forecasted completion of the screening by March 31, 2024.

Re-establishment of the Labour Complaints Tribunal

The Ministry of Rural Transformation, Community Development, Labour and Local Government hereby notifies the public that the Labour Complaints Tribunal was re-constituted on September 26.

Caye Caulker Village Council awarded by the Ministry of Rural Transformation

Chairlady Seleny Villanueva-Pott and her team were awarded by the Ministry of Rural Transformation, Community Development, Labour and Local Government for their achievements in key areas and development in their village. The recognition is part of a program from the Ministry honoring villages and water boards nationwide.

Belize Participates in Regional Workshop on Migrant Workers’ Rights

Belize participated in a regional workshop hosted by the Regional Conference on Migration (RCM), in collaboration with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the International Labour Organization (ILO), in Panama City on June 28 and 29. The delegation included Mr. Valentino Shal, Chief Executive Officer in the Ministry of Rural Transformation, Community Development, Labour, and Local Government; Mrs. Rissela Dominguez-Patt, Labour Commissioner; Mrs. Aida Reyes, Senior Labour Officer; and Ms. Lorine Pott, Port Commander, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade and Immigration.

Belize Discusses Finance for Development at CDB’s 53rd Annual Meeting of Board of Governors

Dr. Osmond Martinez, Chief Executive Officer in the Ministry of Economic Development, and Mr. Valentino Shal, Chief Executive Officer in the Ministry of Rural Transformation, Community Development, Labour, and Local Government, represented Belize at the Caribbean Development Bank’s (CDB) 53rd Annual Meeting of its Board of Governors in St. Lucia. The CEOs represented Belize as Temporary Alternate Governor and Temporary Alternate Director, respectively. The annual meeting is being held under the theme, “Marshalling Finance for Development: Access to Adequate, Affordable Financing.”

Launch of Our City Plans Central America

The launch of Our City Plans Central America, a platform with urban planning tools aimed at municipal technicians of Central American municipalities, took place on May 2 in Belize City.

Labour Department Provides Child Labour Capacity Building Training to Frontline Workers

On March 16, 2023, the Ministry of Rural Transformation, Community Development, Labour, and Local Government held a Child Labour training workshop for frontline workers from various ministries and institutions to foster interagency collaboration and combine efforts to end child labour.
