Hunter B team tops the 2024 La San Pedrana Wahoo Fishing Tournament

The top team at the second annual La San Pedrana Wahoo Fishing Tournament was Hunter B, with a heavy 114.2-pound fish catch. The tournament, held over the weekend of January 27th and 28th, saw over a dozen teams competing for the grand prize of $10,000. The tournament also included other fabulous prizes for second and third place and the top angler of the Wahoo challenge.

Cultivation of Narcotics and Deforestation reported in the Chiquibul National Park

The Friends for Conservation and Development (FCD), the guardians of the Chiquibul National Rainforest Reserve in western Belize, have reported the cultivation of narcotics, including Marijuana and coca plants, in the national park. The finding is worrisome as the activity is reported deeper in Belizean territory. Another problem is deforestation, which threatens the national park.

The Maya Reenactment Wedding is a signature event for BTIA Corozal Chapter and one which has been developed in partnership with the Corozal Town Council, NICH and the BTB. San Pedro Government Hospital to provide over 200 jobs

At a public meeting in San Mateo north of San Pedro Town, Area Representative Honourable Andre Perez stated that the project for the government hospital for the island is finally happening this year. Perez said that although funds were secured, they had to find a property on the island for the structure, and plans had to be designed for the hospital. According to him, all that is done, and once completed, it will provide permanent jobs for around 250 employees.
