TV cable prices set to increase June 1st

On Wednesday, May 9th via a press release issued by the Belize Cable Television Operators Association (BCTVOA) customers were informed of the intent to increase the cost of basic cable as of Friday, June 1st. For San Pedro Town residents, the new price for cable is expected to be $60.

PUC approves a 4.4% increase in electricity rates

The Public Utilities Commission (PUC) has granted Belize Electricity Limited (BEL) a 4.4% increase in electricity rates. The increase represents 38.62 cents per kilowatt hour through June of 2020.

Fuel Prices go up for the third time this year; SIB reports the cost of living down

For the third time this year, fuel prices have gone up in the country. On Tuesday, April 24th, via an erroneous press release from the Belize Bureau of Standards, they misstated the level of increase reported, however, a correction was released later showing the increase on the prices of regular gasoline and diesel.

BAA says Caye Caulker airport to re-open in June

The rehabilitation of the Caye Caulker airstrip has picked up momentum as works are significantly transforming the airstrip to meet its deadline by mid-June of this year. The airstrip had been closed awaiting much-needed repairs since October of 2017 when local airlines, Maya Island Air and Tropic Air, decided to suspend flights to the island, citing unsafe conditions of the runway.

Butane gas prices go up AGAIN

For the second time this year, the price of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) has gone up. On Friday, April 6th, the cost of a 100-pound cylinder of LPG – also known as butane or propane gas – went up $10 across the country, including Ambergris Caye.
