Advanced Cinematography Workshop held in San Pedro for Local Creatives

Share

The San Pedro Town Council sponsored a three-day advanced cinematography workshop from March 22nd to 24th, with three-hour sessions each day. Led by Emmy Award-winning cinematographer Bruce Finn as guest trainer, the workshop focused on composition, lighting, and on-set safety etiquette. It attracted local photographers and videographers eager to develop their skills beyond the basics.
Organized in response to growing interest among young creatives on the island, the workshop totalled nine hours over three days. Participants explored advanced techniques in product and portrait photography, lighting without equipment, shot composition, and exposure. Sessions also introduced key production roles, such as directors, gaffers, and grips, as well as equipment use and retouching techniques commonly used in professional shoots.
Finn is an Emmy Award-winning cinematographer with extensive experience in film, television, and commercial production. Known for his expertise in lighting and visual storytelling, Finn has worked on a wide range of international projects, bringing a strong technical and creative approach to every production. Over the years, he has also dedicated time to mentoring emerging creatives, sharing industry knowledge and practical skills with photographers and filmmakers looking to elevate their craft. Finn’s contribution aimed to support the development of local filmmakers and encourage continued training opportunities.
Local photographer Pablo Garcia, who attended the workshop, described it as both informative and intensive. He noted that the sessions covered a mix of photography and videography, including retouching techniques, lighting, composition, and technical terminology used on professional sets. He added that while some topics served as a refresher, others introduced new concepts, making the experience both challenging and valuable.
The hands-on format allowed participants to absorb a significant amount of information within a short period. Organizers expect the workshop to have a lasting impact by strengthening local talent and improving the quality of creative productions on the island.
The initiative reflects the council’s recognition of San Pedro’s expanding creative community. Organizers extended special thanks to Vernon Wilson for facilitating Finn’s participation and to Mahogany Bay for hosting the sessions.
