International Airport Project Moves Forward for Ambergris Caye

Several major projects are in the pipeline for northern Ambergris Caye, including three new schools and an international airport. Construction of the schools is expected to begin this year, while plans for the new airport have reportedly been approved. Once completed, the airport will accommodate private jets, domestic and regional flights, and charter services.

Construction resumes for Caye Caulker Police Station

After weeks of uncertainty, construction on the new Caye Caulker Police Station resumed during the week of May 11th. Islanders, along with the village council, had protested after work at the beachfront property was paused amid rumors that the land had been sold. While the property remains under the control of the Belize Police Department, the council has been requesting its transfer to them.

172 Ocean Academy Students to Benefit from Free Tuition Program

Area Representative for Belize Rural South, Hon. Andre Perez, confirmed on February 11th that 172 students at Ocean Academy in Caye Caulker will receive free tuition starting the next fiscal year, aligning the island with national public high school tuition policies. The announcement comes as Ministry of Education officials are expected to visit the island in the coming days to finalize plans for new school facilities.

Caye Caulker and San Pedro to Get New Schools in 2026

Area Representative Hon. Andre Perez has announced that new school projects for Caye Caulker and San Pedro, Ambergris Caye, are slated to begin in 2026. Perez shared the update while outlining planned development projects for Belize Rural South at the end of the year.

Senator Gabriel Zetina Endorsed as UDP Caretaker for Belize Rural South

On Saturday, September 27th, the United Democratic Party (UDP) convened in San Pedro Town, Ambergris Caye, to officially endorse Senator Honourable Gabriel Zetina as their new caretaker for the Belize Rural South (BRS) constituency. The constituency also includes the island community of Caye Caulker, and several supporters from La Isla Cariñosa traveled to San Pedro for the event held at the Angel Nuñez Auditorium at San Pedro High School.

Hon. Andre Perez Announces 700 Lots for First-Time Landowners in Northern Ambergris Caye

During the 2025–2026 national budget debate held from May 26–28, Area Representative for Belize Rural South (Ambergris Caye and Caye Caulker), the Honorable Andre Perez, announced the acquisition of up to 700 parcels of land in northern Ambergris Caye. These lots will be distributed to first-time landowners, a move aimed at addressing the growing demand for land on the island. Perez credited Deputy Prime Minister, the Honorable Cordel Hyde, for his vital role in securing the land for island residents.
