Pre-bid session held with contractors for San Mateo pedestrian bridge

For several months, stakeholders have discussed a project to deliver essential services to the San Mateo subdivision. The plan, which includes multiple infrastructure upgrades, has received the green light following consultations with the San Pedro Town Council and the central government’s procurement team. Among the scheduled works is the construction of a pedestrian bridge linking San Mateo and the Boca del Rio subdivision. On Thursday, September 26th, a pre-bid meeting was held in San Pedro Town with prospective contractors, during which the procurement team outlined the application process.

San Mateo Residents Updated on $10M Improvement Project

A community meeting to provide updates on the San Mateo improvement plans was held on September 18, 2025, at 5:30PM at the Sagebrush Sports Complex in San Pedro, Belize. The session aimed to inform residents about ongoing and upcoming developments in San Mateo, with a focus on infrastructure, urban development, and community well-being. Government officials, project engineers, and community representatives participated to share insights and engage with the public on the plans that will shape the future of the neighborhood.

Major Infrastructure Upgrades Coming to San Mateo

On July 30th, the San Pedro Town Council marked a pivotal step in the San Mateo Community Improvement Project by hosting a visit from the technical team leading the initiative. The meeting outlined the project’s phases and featured the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding by Mayor Wally Nuñez, formally launching the project’s implementation.

New Central Park Food Casitas connected to running water; official inauguration of project soon

The brand new and colorful food casitas (booths) at Central Park in downtown San Pedro are almost ready to be inaugurated, tentatively in June. The booths are complete, painted with Caribbean hues, and connected to the electricity service. The concrete structures underwent another upgrade from May 16th through the 18th, with the connection to running water installed by Belize Water Services Limited (BWSL).

BWS holds presentation on a water expansion project for south San Pedro

Belize Water Services (BWS) continues working hard on several infrastructural projects across San Pedro Town, Ambergris Caye, to upgrade potable water delivery. The company’s next project includes expanding water networks in prioritized service areas south of town. This includes Eiley/Marina Drive, DFC, and San Marcos subdivisions. To introduce the proposed project, on Friday, December 16th, BWS personnel were in the Marina Drive neighborhood conducting a consultation with residents of that area.

BWS asks customers complaining of unusually high bills to visit their office

Residents in San Pedro Town were expecting low water bills for the month of March after the island experienced low water pressure and shortages due to mechanical malfunctions at the water plant for most of March. Some islanders are now reporting their water bills is higher than usual and Belize Water Services (BWS) invites concerned customers to visit their office.
