Everette Anderson installed as President for San Pedro Lions Club

The San Pedro Lions Club installed a new president and board of directors on Saturday, July 24th. Everette Anderson accepted the task of leading the club and was sworn in as president. The new president and his team look forward to working hard for the island community.

Belize Diving Adventures offers scuba diving training to public officials

On Thursday, March 5th, local tour company Belize Diving Adventures (BDA) began its first scuba diving training session for public officials.

Tour Operator oversaturation discussed at monthly San Pedro Tour Operators Association meeting

The San Pedro Tour Operators Association (SPTOA) held its general meeting on Tuesday, February 11th inside the Hol Chan Marine Reserve conference room to address the issue of tour operator oversaturation on the island. The discussion included recommendations on how the organization can work hand in hand with the local authorities when granting trade licenses to new tour operators and what can be the best mechanism to mitigate the saturation that is beginning to affect stakeholders.

San Pedro Lions Club hosts Christmas party for island senior citizens

Senior citizens of San Pedro Town were honoured on Wednesday, December 18th at their annual Christmas organized by the San Pedro Lions Club.

Kids in Action 2019 Youth Summer Diving Program receives donations

The annual summer program is possible thanks to the contributions of different institutions on the island, and so far it has received its first set of donations. A $3,300 cheque from the Hol Chan Marine Reserve (HCMR) will go rowards purchasing material for the activity, while the Diver Alert Network-DAN has confirmed their contribution by providing insurance to the participants of this year’s event.

Reef rehabilitation project starts on Ambergris Caye

A reef restoration project has begun on the eastern coast of Ambergris Caye, in an attempt to replenish areas along the Barrier Reef where corals have died.

Kids in Action tackle Boca del Rio during National Coastal and River waterways clean-up campaign

On Saturday, October 6th, Oceana in Belize hosted their 27th National Coastal and River Waterways Clean Up campaign across the country. This year, the clean-up reached Ambergris Caye, where the organization teamed up with a group of environmental advocates known as Kids in Action (KIA).

San Pedro Tour Operators Association General Meeting welcomes special guest from BTB

On Wednesday, May 9th the San Pedro Tour Operators Association (SPTOA) hosted a general meeting at the Sunbreeze Hotel conference room. Various issues pertaining to the association were discussed, and engaging with the tour operators was Belize Tourism Board’s (BTB) Director of Cruise and Destination Planning, Noriko Gamero.
