Prime Minister Holds Critical Discussions in Mexico

On Wednesday, 13th November 2024, Prime Minister Hon. John Briceño traveled to Mexico City to chair a meeting of COCESNA (the Central American Air Navigation Services Corporation) as the pro tempore chairman of that organization. The Prime Minister also seized the opportunity to lobby support for the candidacy of CEO Kennedy Carillo to sit on the ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization) Board, a specialized agency of the United Nations.

Government of Belize and the Millennium Challenge Corporation Sign Five-Year US$125 Million Grant Agreement

The Government of Belize and the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), a U.S. government agency, signed a five-year US$125 million Grant Agreement for investment in education and energy in Belize. Prime Minister Hon. John Briceño signed on behalf of the Government of Belize, and CEO Mrs. Alice Albright signed for MCC.

GOB holds press conference to clarify land purchase for New Belmopan Hospital

After receiving public and media criticism, the Government of Belize issued an official statement on Monday, August 26th, to address concerns about purchasing two parcels of land valued at $6.9 million for a new hospital in Belmopan City. During a press conference, the Ministry of Health and Wellness clarified that the hospital's location would be changed from the originally planned site, which the University of Belize offered for free, to a new location next to the Hector Silva Air Strip. The decision was made because the government found the University of Belize's land offer inadequate.

COCESNA endorses Belize’s CEO of Civil Aviation as Central American Candidate to the ICAO

At the 262nd Ordinary Board Meeting of COCESNA held in Madrid, Spain, on March 19, Prime Minister Hon. John Briceño presented Kennedy Carrillo, CEO in the Ministry of Blue Economy and Civil Aviation, as Belize’s candidate to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) for the period 2025-2028. CEO Carrillo’s candidature was unanimously endorsed by the Central American member countries on the COCESNA Board.

GOB and EU Reinforce Their Partnership by Signing a Green Growth, Trade, Border Management Programme

Prime Minister Hon. John Briceño and H.E. Marianne van Steen, Ambassador of the European Union (EU) to Belize, have reaffirmed the long-standing partnership between the Government of Belize and the EU with the signature of the Financing Agreement of EUR 12.6 million (around USD 13.5 million). The funds are part of the current EU commitment of EUR 17 million with opportunities to be increased in the next years. The EU funds support the Government of Belize in achieving the targets of the #planBelize Medium-Term Development Strategy.

Belize Tourism Industry Association holds 38th Annual General Meeting

The 38th Annual General Meeting of the Belize Tourism Industry Association was held on Friday, January 12th at the Best Western Plus Biltmore Plaza. Prime Minister Hon. John Briceno gave the Keynote address. Minister of Tourism and Diaspora Relations Hon. Anthony Mahler and BTIA President Stewart Krohn also addressed the gathering.
