RRR hosts successful third annual Poker Run

The Rickilee Response and Rescue (RRR) team hosted their third annual Poker Run on Friday, March 9th to raise much-needed funds for their operations. The funds support RRR’s daily challenges in responding to medical emergencies in San Pedro, Ambergris Caye. The annual event saw the participation of many islanders who, along with generous donations, contributed to the grand total of BZ$40,000, benefiting the island’s volunteer-based emergency response team.

RRR announces third Annual Poker Run

The Rickilee Response and Rescue (RRR) team is organizing its third annual Poker Run at the Purple Pelican Restaurant on Saturday, March 9th, starting at 11:30AM. The event is open to anyone who wants an enjoyable day while supporting the island's emergency response team. The event will feature drinks, delicious food, great music, and a poker game.

Tragic death of beloved islander has San Pedranos demanding better health services

The sudden death of islander Alexander Morris shocked his friends and relatives in the early hours of Monday, October 10th. Morris suffered a terrible accident and needed to be airlifted to Belize City for emergency medical attention. However, due to inclement weather, the transfer was delayed. Morris's condition deteriorated, and he passed away, waiting for emergency care. Family and friends were devastated and now call on respective authorities to better equip the island's medical center to avoid these tragedies.

Sailboat remains abandoned on the reef

In March of this year, a 35-foot sailboat named ‘Ramblynn’ ran aground on the reef in the Tranquillity channel area off the northern coast of Ambergris Caye. According to persons in the area, the sailboat belonging to Canadian national Glen Peter remains abandoned on the reef. There is no update on when this vessel will be removed, which may be damaging the reef.

The fate of shipwrecked immigrants in Belize

Over the years, shipwreck survivors have unintentionally ended up on Belizean shores. Whether they run aground on the barrier reef, experience engine trouble, or drift off course, the treatment from Belizean authorities, according to reports, is inconsistent. According to recent incidents, some are cleared and allowed to leave after being assisted, while others are imprisoned, and arrangements are made for their removal from the country.
