Antonio Tepaz arrested and charged for the money missing at San Pedro Solid Waste Management Authority

Police reported on Friday, April 28th, that Antonio Lorenzo Tepaz, 26, was arrested and charged with the crime of Theft in relation to the $30,335 missing from the island’s Solid Waste Management Authority branch. The missing funds were discovered following an audit on the tipping fees collected at the San Pedro garbage transfer station from March 4, 2022, through February 15, 2023.

Jasmine Hartin drug charge adjourned to August

The San Pedro Magistrate Court case on charges of Possession of a Controlled Drug against Jasmine Hartin was again adjourned on Wednesday, March 15. Hartin is to return to the island court on August 16, 2023.

San Pedro resident Alvaro Tun charged with the death of Elder Arana

Islander 32-year-old Alvaro Luis Tun was arraigned at the San Pedro Magistrate Court on Tuesday, March 7th, for the death of 29-year-old Elder Arana. Although Tun claims he is innocent, he is charged with Murder. No plea was taken, and bail was denied. Tun has been remanded to the Kolbe Foundation-Belize Central Prison, and his next court date is set for May 31, 2023.

Jasmine Hartin returns to court to face drug possession and common assault charges

Canadian national Jasmine Hartin was back at the San Pedro Magistrate Court on Thursday, January 26th, to answer charges of Possession of a Controlled Drug and Common Assault. The court session involved presentations by Hartin's legal team on the charge of Possession of a Controlled Drug after the Common Assault case was adjourned to March 8th. The presentations and submissions by Hartin's attorney Ronell Gonzalez regarding the drug charge, attempted to dispute the evidence from the prosecution. The session spanned for almost two hours before the matter was adjourned to March 15th by the Magistrate.

Trio charged with Wounding in alleged hate crime

On Tuesday, December 20th, Alexis Copo, 24, Victor Carillo, 19, and Lorenzo Menjivar, 35, were jointly charged with the crime of Wounding after being accused of attacking and causing severe injuries to islander Aron Aidan Castillo. Copo was additionally charged with Driving with No Care and Attention and Damage to Property. The trio pleaded not guilty to the charges, were offered bail of $2,000 plus one surety, and must return to court on February 16, 2023.

Murder suspect charged for Possession of Unlicensed firearm

The shooting death of island businessman Elvis Polanco is a daily topic in San Pedro Town as friends and relatives mourn his death. Police detained two suspects, one an interdicted police officer and the other an x-cop, but there have been no charges for the crime. However, one of the suspects, 32-year-old Paul Mortis, was charged and remanded for the Possession of an Unlicensed Firearm.

Police detain persons caught with counterfeit BZ$100 bills in San Pedro

The San Pedro Police Formation is investigating the circulation of counterfeit currency on the island and has detained persons holding fake notes of BZ$100. They are expected to be charged and prosecuted at the San Pedro Magistrate Court for the offence.
