2022 Kids in Action certifies new divers, fly-fishers, and swimmers

The 2022 Kids in Action Youth Scuba Summer Camp held a special event on Sunday, July 24th, to introduce its new set of young students who completed their diving, fly-fishing, and swimming program. The closing ceremony of the annual camp saw the certification of 40 kids in scuba diving, six in fly-fishing, and eight in the swimming section of the educational summer camp.

Hol Chan Marine Reserve meets with three key associations on the island

On Thursday, July 7th, representatives of the Hol Chan Marine Reserve and Area Representative Honourable Andre Perez held a stakeholder engagement with the presidents of the San Pedro Tour Operators Association, San Pedro Tourist Guide Association, and the Ambergris Caye Fishing Guide Association. The associations had requested the meeting to seek mutual collaboration and more representation within the operations of the marine reserve.

San Pedro Lobsterfest kicks with Lionfish tournament and lobster crawl

The 2022-2023 lobster season has officially opened, and San Pedro Town celebrates the occasion with the annual Lobster Festival. To kick off the festivities, a Lionfish tournament marked the beginning of the event in tandem with the famous Lobster Crawl.

Kids in Action scuba diving camp certifies 18 students and two public officers

The annual summer scuba diving program ‘Kids in Action’ came to an end over the weekend, certifying 18 children and two health officers. The two-week program concluded on Sunday, July 25th, with a beach clean-up and a fun dive at the Hol Chan Marine Reserve. The summer camp, which paused in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, also included fly fishing lessons and reef ecology.

Kids in Action is back; another group of island children to become divers

After postponed in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Youth Scuba Summer Camp known as Kids in Action is back. The two-week program is already underway and saw the enrolment of 18 children and two public officers. The aim is to teach and certify them in diving to appreciate better the natural marine resources surrounding Ambergris Caye.

Ministry of Tourism, BTB, and Tourism Police commit to address tour operator issues in San Pedro

Members of the San Pedro Tour Operators Association (SPTOA) met with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ministry of Tourism, Acting Director of the Belize Tourism Board (BTB), and head of the Tourism Police Unit on Wednesday, April 21st, to discuss various issues relating to tour operators on the island. The government representatives listened to the issues brought up by SPTOA members, such as the operation of unlicensed tour operators. The representatives committed to tackling the situation by increasing inspections and improving enforcement. The option to categorize licenses and address the alleged violations in the Qualified Retirement Program (QRP) was also discussed.

Minister of the Blue Economy meets with key partners in San Pedro Town

On Thursday, April 15th, the Honourable Andre Perez, Minister of the Blue Economy and Civil Aviation, and his team met with the San Pedro Town community key partners to discuss collaboration opportunities. Some of these partners included representatives of the San Pedro Fishing Association, San Pedro Tour Operators Association, the San Pedro Tour Association, and the San Pedro Town Council. These groups engaged with Perez and his Chief Executive Officer Kennedy Carrillo and Policy and Planning Advisor Beverly Wade.

Belize Diving Adventures offers scuba diving training to public officials

On Thursday, March 5th, local tour company Belize Diving Adventures (BDA) began its first scuba diving training session for public officials.
