Wolfe’s Woofer: Fitness
Sunday, September 7th, 2014
“Well, if it’s not Jo Castleberry,” I said. “Where have you been keeping yourself?”
“I’ve been keeping myself at home,” she said.
“You should go out more,” I told her. “You need to get some sun.”
“I need more than sun,” she said. “I need one of them makeovers.”
“You mean like the ones on TV where they come in and do your hair and dress you up in a new style of clothes and all of that?”
“Not really,” she said. “I ain’t about to change the way I dress or how my hair is done. I just need to lose some weight.”
“Why, Jo! You look just fine to me. As a matter of fact. . . .”
“Oh, shut up, Dennis Wolfe,” she said. “I know I need to lose some weight.”
“Why don’t you take an aerobics class?”
“Aerobics is a fitness class where people do exercises to lose weight.”
“They have classes to lose weight? I had a hard enough time passing English class in school. I don’t know if I could get a passing grade in a class to lose weight.”
“Oh, go down to the gym and sign up,” I told her.
I saw Jo at the store yesterday.
“Hey, did you try the aerobics class?” I asked.
“How was it?”
“It was one of the most painful and embarrassing things I’ve ever done,” she said.
“Oh, everyone is a little sore after the first day or two,” I told her. “It’s to be expected.”
“Not like this,” she said.
“What do you mean?”
“I bent, I twisted, jumped up and down and sweated for an hour. But by the time I got my tights on the class was over.”
