Labor Department educates Standard Six students on child labor laws
On Wednesday, June 12th, Belize observed World Day Against Child Labor. The Labor Department in Belize took proactive steps by conducting an educational campaign on this crucial topic at different schools. In San Pedro Town, the local Labor Office conducted an informative session with Standard Six students at the island’s Roman Catholic Primary School on Tuesday, June 11th—the presentations aimed to educate the students about the issue of child labor and their rights as children.

“Saving Pets One at a Time” hosts annual pet clinic in San Pedro
This past week, "Saving Pets One at a Time" (SPOTS), a team led by Hailey Adams from Phoenix, Arizona, USA, was on a mission to provide free vaccines to cats and dogs on the island. During these campaigns, they partner with local businesses and organizations, including the Saga Humane Society and the San Pedro Animal Hospital, to offer free spaying, neutering, and DHLPP vaccines. The pop-up clinics across town included the San Mateo Subdivision, the Boca del Rio area at Sandy Toes Beach Bar, and south of town at Island Jungle Restaurant and Bar.

Five Police Officers awarded for excellent performance in April and May
On Friday, June 7th, five police officers attached to the San Pedro Police Formation were recognized for their outstanding performances during April and May. The Officer Commanding of Division Four (San Pedro, Ambergris Caye, and Caye Caulker), Senior Superintendent Alejandro Cowo, presented the exemplary officers with their awards at the San Pedro Police Station. The police station Commanding Officer, Superintendent Egbert Castillo, and Deputy Commanding Officer, Inspector Darwin Serano, were also present at the award ceremony.

On Wednesday, June 5th, students in standard three through six at La Isla Bonita Elementary School completed a "Positive Engagement and Civic Education" project organized by the San Pedro Police Department and the Community Oriented Policing Unit. They were awarded for participating in the project, marking the end of their positive educational journey.

Prime Minister Briceno attends second term inauguration of President Bukele
On Saturday, June 1st, Prime Minister Honorable John Briceno attended a crucial meeting at the Casa Presidencial in San Salvador, El Salvador. This meeting marked Nayib Bukele's second term inauguration, a momentous occasion in which Briceno was present to congratulate him. During the meeting, Briceno engaged in discussions with President Bukele about matters of mutual interest and decisions.

US Embassy hosts Citizens Town Hall in San Pedro
On Tuesday, June 4th, the US Embassy of Belize held a town hall meeting that started shortly after 11:30 AM and ended around 1:30PM. The event occurred at the Blue Water Grill inside the Sunbreeze Hotel on Coconut Drive. The meeting covered topics such as US citizen services offered in Belize and how they manage laws and regulations. According to the presenters, the United States Government Embassy provides prompt, courteous, and efficient services to United States citizens and other clients. During the presentation, they discussed the services offered by the US Embassy and the limitations of their assistance.

Remembering Mrs. Martha Guerrero
The San Pedro Sun joins the island community in commemorating the life of stalwart Martha Guerrero. A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Mrs. Martha passed away on Wednesday, June 5th.
