COVID-19 vaccines are still available; residents encouraged to get vaccinated as cases increase

COVID-19 is still very much existent, and anyone who remains unvaccinated is encouraged to visit their nearest health centre to get the vaccine. Covid boosters are also available for those due for their third or fourth jab. The Nurses Association of Belize (NAB) said on Wednesday, January 4th that Belizeans continue getting vaccinated, a move that is being applauded as cases of the deadly virus have been increasing over the past weeks.

MOHW Advises on Increased Cases of COVID-19 and Respiratory Illnesses

The Ministry of Health & Wellness (MOHW) informs the public that over the past two weeks there has been an increase in COVID-19 cases, from 69 cases reported over a seven-day period in the first week of December 2022 to 271 cases reported between December 19 and 27. The current projections from the Epidemiology Unit at the ministry show a rise in cases into the new year, with a peak by mid-January. the ministry also notes an increase in influenza (flu) cases that cause similar symptoms to COVID-19.

MoHW Receives Donation of Sanitizing Alcohol-gel from Government of Brazil

On December 12, 2022, the Ministry of Health & Wellness received a donation of 1,200 boxes (14,000 tons) of sanitizing alcohol-gel from the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Brazil and the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO).

San Pedro Polyclinic receives AC units courtesy of Taly Corporation

The island's main referral health facility for public health, the Dr. Otto Rodriguez San Pedro Polyclinic II, received three new air conditioning units on Friday, December 9th, courtesy of Taly Corporation. This organization has also committed to helping with equipment needed in the dentistry department of the polyclinic.

Belize to Observe World AIDS Day 2022

Caye Caulker Health Center officially inaugurated

A little over a year after it was first announced, Honourable Andre Perez, Area Representative for Belize Rural South (BRS) (Caye Caulker and Ambergris Caye), hosted a ground-breaking ceremony for a new polyclinic in Caye Caulker. On Monday, November 21st, Perez was back in La Isla Cariñosa along with the Minister of Health and Wellness (MOHW), the Honourable Kevin Bernard delivering the completed polyclinic. The new health center, named Caye Caulker Health Center, will improve the medical services on the island, which is a popular tourist destination in the country.
