Belize Rural South Standard Bearers participate in debate ahead of general election

As the next general election approaches, the four candidates vying for Area Representative of Belize Rural South (BRS) participated in a Standard Bearer Debate on Wednesday, March 5th. The event took place at the Lions Den in San Pedro Town and was organized by The San Pedro Sun and Reef TV/Radio. Starting at 7 PM, the candidates answered questions addressing issues that impact the constituency.

PUP unveils Plan Belize 2.0

The People's United Party (PUP) recently unveiled its Plan Belize 2.0 manifesto at an event in San Ignacio, Belize, as part of their campaign for the upcoming general elections. Political candidates across Belize were officially nominated on Monday, February 24th, to participate in the General Election scheduled for March 12th. Nomination Day provides an opportunity for candidates to demonstrate their support through parades. In the Belize Rural South (BRS) constituency, which includes Ambergris Caye and Caye Caulker, the ruling People’s United Party (PUP), two factions of the United Democratic Party (UDP), and the Belizeans Justice Movement presented their candidates to contest the seat in the upcoming elections.

The High Court has dismissed General Election Injunction

On February 18, 2025, the Belize High Court rejected an interim relief application submitted by Jeremy Enriquez, determining that he did not provide adequate legal justification for his claims. The court heard a request for an injunction to stop the general election scheduled for March 12 due to the lack of redistricting.

Manuel Heredia returns to politics in Belize Rural South

Former Area Representative for Belize Rural South (BRS), which includes Caye Caulker and Ambergris Caye, Manuel Heredia has come out of retirement to run for the upcoming general elections scheduled for March 12th. Heredia is once again seeking candidacy for the United Democratic Party (UDP) under the leadership of Honourable Tracy Panton. He previously held the BRS seat from 2003 to 2020.

The PUP begins the campaign season with a large National Convention

With general elections scheduled for March 12th, the campaign season is officially underway across the country. The governing People’s United Party (PUP) launched its election campaign with a massive national convention on Sunday, February 16th, at the Civic Center in Belize City. All 31 standard bearers, along with their delegates and supporters, gathered inside the center while many others waited outside for the afterparty.

Belizeans set to elect a new government on March 12th

On February 11th, Prime Minister Honorable Dr. John Briceño announced that Wednesday, March 12th, will be the general election, making it a public and bank holiday. The election will allow Belizeans to choose whether to re-elect their government or select a new administration.

On Wednesday, January 22nd, Briceño shared with reporters in Belize City that he hopes to retire from electoral politics after serving a second term.
