Belize and the Republic of Korea Sign Historic Cooperation Framework Agreement

Respective delegations met in Seoul on August 1 for the negotiation of a Framework Agreement for Grant Aid between the governments of Belize and the Republic of Korea. The agreement promotes poverty reduction and the sustainable economic, trade and investment, and social development of Belize through grant aid from the Republic of Korea. It also further strengthens the collaborative relations between the two countries.

Prime Minister Meets with Green Climate Fund and Global Green Growth Institute

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries of the Republic of Korea invited the Prime Minister Hon. John Briceño, Minister of Finance, Economic Development and Investment, to be the keynote speaker at the World Climate Industry Expo - Leaders’ Summit in Busan, Republic of Korea. The summit will take place on May 27, under the theme “Global Cooperation and Solidarity for the Fight against Climate Change in the Ocean.”

On December 21, 2022, Hon. John Briceño, Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Economic Development, and Investment, handed over 10 Troop Lifting Vehicles to the Ministry of National Defence and Border Security.

Prime Minister Receives Financing from CABEI for Hurricane Relief Efforts

Prime Minister Hon. John Briceño, Minister of Finance, Economic Development and Investment, signed an agreement with Ms. Kerstin Morales, Project Executive for the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI), to receive a donation of BZ$2,000,000, on behalf of the Government of Belize, for humanitarian support to aid the victims of Hurricane Lisa.

BPD and BDF Receive Equipment to Increase Citizen Security

On November 15, 2022, Hon. John Briceño, Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Economic Development, and Investment, handed over vehicles to the Belize Police Department (BPD) and computer equipment to the Belize Defence Force (BDF). The items were procured under the Belize Integral Security Programme (BISP), a BZ$60-million-dollar project funded by the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI), which is intended to strengthen the capacity of the BPD and BDF thereby enabling officers to provide increased security for citizens.

GOB Receives Third Disbursement of the 2022 Bilateral Cooperation Grant

On August 22, 2022, Prime Minister Hon. John Briceño, Minister of Finance, Economic Development and Investment, received a grant from H. E. David Kuan-Chou Chien, Ambassador of the Republic of China (Taiwan), in the amount of US$750,000. This represents the third disbursement under the 2022 Bilateral Cooperation Program between Belize and Taiwan.

Belize Welcomes the Secretary General of OAS on Official Visit

Prime Minister Hon. John Briceño, Minister of Finance, Economic Development and Investment, met with H.E. Luis Almagro Lemes, Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), who arrived on August 21, 2022, for an official visit to Belize.

David Kuan-Chou Chien, Ambassador of the Republic of China (Taiwan), in the amount of US$950,000. This represents the second disbursement under the 2022 Bilateral Cooperation Program between Belize and Taiwan.
