Ministry of Transport Visits the Cayes to Discuss Traffic
During private meetings held in Caye Caulker and San Pedro Town on Ambergris Caye, the Minister of Transport, the Honourable Dr. Louis Zabaneh, and his Chief Executive Officer, Chester Williams, engaged with local traffic control committees to better understand their challenges and explore potential solutions to traffic issues in the area. Members of the traffic control committees from Caye Caulker and Ambergris Caye expressed their concerns and informed the Minister about various transportation problems affecting both island communities.

Multimillion-dollar Blue Economy project approved by the World Bank to benefit Ambergris Caye
On Monday, February 3rd, the World Bank’s Board of Executive Directors announced that it had approved a new project called “Blue Cities and Beyond.” This initiative aims to support Belize’s Blue Economy by promoting the sustainable use of ocean and coastal resources for economic development while protecting the environment and improving livelihoods. Valued at US$32.23 million, the project will fund initiatives in San Pedro Town, Ambergris Caye, Belize City, and Punta Gorda in southern Belize.

Plan proposed to standardize taxi services in San Pedro
Residents, local organizations, and past administrations have discussed establishing a formal and standardized taxi service in San Pedro Town for many years, but no changes have been implemented. Suggestions for improvement have included addressing the size of the current taxi vehicles, ensuring their proper condition, and enhancing the overall presentation of both the service and the drivers. Many islanders believe that if a formal system is introduced and enforced, it will enhance the experience for locals and tourists when using the island's taxi services.

BTB donates garbage compactors to five different municipalities
The Belize Tourism Board (BTB) presented five garbage compactor trucks to five municipalities on Thursday, September 12th, in the Capital City of Belmopan. San Pedro Town, Belmopan City, Caye Caulker Village, Hopkins Village, and Placencia Village were recipients. The assets help improve trash collection efforts in these popular tourism destinations.

National Health Insurance coming to San Pedro in July
Belize's National Health Insurance Program (NHI) is set to roll out in San Pedro Town and Caye Caulker Village in July of this year. Established in 2000 through an amendment to the Social Security Act, the integral healthcare program is slowly being implemented nationwide. The announcement that the NHI will soon be available to island residents was made during the ground-breaking ceremony of the San Pedro and Caye Caulker General Hospital on Friday, March 1st.
