Wolfe’s Woofer: Chocolate Cake
Sunday, July 27th, 2014
“Hello, Lupe. How are you doing?”
“I’m doing well, thank you,” Lupe said. “And how are you this morning Anna?”
“I’m alright,” Anna said.
I was sitting the deck at the Holiday Hotel, drinking my morning coffee when these two local ladies came in and sat at the table next to me.
“How is the diet going?” Lupe asked.
“Ha! Not very good.”
“Why is that?”
“I gained a pound and a half yesterday,” Anna told her.
I would guess that Anna probably went about a hundred and seventy pounds if the scale was kind to her. She was barely five feet tall which made her legs and neck appear much shorter than they actually were.
“Was it something you ate at Jaime’s birthday party?”
“Yes, I’m afraid so,” Anna said.
“Well, I know Jaime is really after you to stick with the diet,” Lupe said.
“Oh, yes. He wants me to lose weight. He checks every day to see how much I eat.”
“How did you gain a pound and a half?”
“It was terrible,” Anna said. “You know how half of that beautiful chocolate cake was left after the party?”
“Yes. Don’t tell me that you…”
“Oh, yes, I did. I started with just a little bite and before I know it the entire half a cake was done.”
“I guess half isn’t too bad,” Lupe said. “It’s not like you ate a whole cake or anything.”
She stopped for a moment and then said, “I hope Jaime wasn’t too upset when he found the rest of the cake gone.”
“He never found out,” Anna said.
“He didn’t even notice?” Lupe asked. “How can that be?”
Anna smiled and said, “He never found out because I just baked another cake and ate half of it.”
