Co-ed Softball Tournament continues every Sunday
On Sunday, April 27th, the San Pedro Town Council Sports continued its Co-ed Softball Tournament at the Honorable Lious Syvestre Sporting Complex (Saca Chispas Field). Residents and visitors showed up to cheer for their favorite teams. Four teams competed in a friendly yet spirited round of matches, highlighting local talent and promoting recreational activities.

The San Pedro Marching Bands entertains island community during appreciation show
On Saturday, April 26th, the San Pedro Town Council hosted the highly anticipated Marching Bands Appreciation Show at Ambergris Stadium. This event was organized to honor the contributions of the marching bands from San Pedro Roman Catholic School (SPRCS) and San Pedro High School (SPHS) to the community spirit. It attracted large crowds of residents and visitors alike, who paid a small admission fee of $3, which was donated to the bands.

San Pedro Pirates are sub-champions of the PLB 2025 Closing Season
The San Pedro Pirates Football Club (FC) has returned to the island as the sub-champions of the Premier League of Belize (PLB) Closing Season. On Saturday, April 26th, they faced Verdes FC in the second leg of the finals at the Edmund Marshalleck Stadium in Benque Viejo del Carmen, Cayo District, but lost 2-0. This victory secured Verdes their ninth national title.

San Pedro Institute of Culinary Education now accepting applications for second cooking program
Following the successful first edition of the San Pedro Institute of Culinary Education (SPICE) program at the Holy Cross Anglican School, which saw ten students graduate, a second class will begin on May 20, 2025. The organizers aim to host 12 students and equip them with professional culinary techniques. Classes will be held on Tuesdays from 4 PM to 8 PM for 30 weeks.

Belize Reef Sharks make a remarkable comeback
The resurgence of Belize's reef sharks, a significant conservation success story, is a result of the dedicated efforts of the MarAlliance team. With a history in shark research and fishing dating back to 1985, they have played a pivotal role in this transformation. Despite the bleak outlook for years, with iconic species like sawfish disappearing and great hammerhead sightings becoming rare, researchers have been documenting a remarkable recovery at key monitoring sites since 2022. Turneffe Atoll, for instance, saw a tenfold increase in Caribbean reef shark numbers since 2014.
