Golf Cart Collisions Spike in San Pedro; Officials Urge Responsible Driving

San Pedro is witnessing a troubling increase in golf cart-related accidents, prompting renewed calls from authorities and local businesses for greater public awareness and responsible use of these widely used vehicles. While often perceived as leisurely or recreational, golf carts are the island’s primary mode of transportation for both residents and visitors. With narrow roads and limited parking spaces, these vehicles are essential to island life, but their misuse has led to growing safety concerns.

Business Establishments Warned on the Sale of Expired Goods

The sale of expired goods is not only prohibited but also poses a serious health hazard to the public. In San Pedro Town, Ambergris Caye, the office of the Public Health Inspector continues to monitor establishments suspected of keeping expired products on their shelves. Routine inspections have led to the removal and destruction of such goods, and repeat offenders risk legal action and prosecution.

Measles Contained in Belize as Public Health Measures Prove Effective

On July 21, 2025, Belize’s health officials reported no new measles cases for more than two full incubation periods. This marks the formal end of the outbreak that began in early April and resulted in 34 confirmed cases, primarily in the Corozal and Cayo districts. The outbreak was initially linked to tourists returning from Mexico and affected only unvaccinated individuals.

Annual Diving Program Certifies New Generation of Divers in Toledo District

A scuba diving summer program in Punta Gorda Town, located in the Toledo District, recently concluded with 15 young participants completing their Open Water Diving certification. The youth were guided by a team of dedicated instructors, including San Pedro-based PADI professionals Everette Anderson and Enes Ramirez, along with Punta Gorda native Ched Cabral. Supporting the team were assistant instructor David Thomas Cal, dive master Marleni Emilian Edwin, and logistics coordinators Philip Vernon and Gene Lopez.

This agreement marks a significant milestone in national efforts to strengthen environmental and economic resilience through strategic partnerships and shared expertise.

Community Comes Together to Support Quarterly Blood Drives

On Saturday, July 26th, the San Pedro Community Blood Drive Group hosted a dinner and raffle to raise funds to support their upcoming quarterly blood drive, scheduled for August 2nd at the Dr. Otto Rodriguez Polyclinic II. The “Dip, Dine & Donate” fundraiser was held at Akasha Restaurant, located at the Aruna Resort and Villas. The event began at 1PM, with nearly 100 guests having reserved in advance. Boat transportation was provided, with pickup at the dock in front of Level Up Barcade. The Akasha staff delivered professional and courteous service, taking food and drink orders throughout the day.

Sharks FC Falls Short in NAIC Quarterfinals

The 2025 National Amateur Interdistrict Championship (NAIC) is heading into the semifinals following intense matches on July 26th and 27th. However, San Pedro’s Sharks FC will not advance after a narrow aggregate loss to Vikings FC in the quarterfinals. Despite the setback, the team showed determination and proudly represented the island.
