Mundialito Season kicks off with a Jersey Presentation and Parade

The anticipated 2024 Mundialito season is here again, starting with a short opening ceremony on Friday, July 12th, at the Ambergris Stadium, where participants were given jerseys and introduced to their coaches. On Saturday, July 13th, the seven participating teams were celebrated with a grand rally, welcoming one hundred and thirty-three players in this year's tournament with contestants aged 6-13. Teams participating in the intensifying match include Belize, Argentina, Brazil, France, Portugal, Germany, and Canada.

San Pedro’s Annual Kids in Action Summer Camp Program is back!

The Youth Summer camp program, Kids in Action, is back in full swing, with 74 kids enrolled this year. The program, in partnership with the Coastal Zone Management Authority & Institute (CZMAI), started on Monday, July 8th, and will run through Thursday, July 18th. It offers ten incredible days of fun and knowledge enrichment for the young minds of Ambergris Caye.

Honorable Andre Perez hosts victory dinner for SPRCS Boys Football Team

On Friday, May 31st, Area Representative for Belize Rural South, Honorable Andre Perez, hosted a dinner at El Patio Restaurant to celebrate the San Pedro Roman Catholic School (SPRCS) male football team's back-to-back victory in the Bishop's Cup Football Tournament. The students' hard work and dedication were the key to their success, and Perez acknowledged this during the dinner.

San Pedro Police Cadets are an example of youth empowerment

Over the years, the San Pedro Police Formation has increased its community policing program by engaging the youth with their cadets’ program. The program is manned by various police officers dedicated to the cadets. The cadet group is currently under the guidance of Corporal Adrian Flores and police officers Harris Gabourel and Kenrick Gentle. The 25 active cadets are the champions of the 2023 Belize District Drill competition.

Hon. Henry Charles Usher, Minister of the Public Service, Constitutional and Political Reform and Religious Affairs, met with 10 Belizean youths who will represent Belize at the World Youth Day event in Lisbon, Portugal, in August 2023.

Three island female footballers join the UB Black Jaguars headed to the VIII Central American University Games

Islanders Caroline Sersland, Tanya Teul, and Dennisa Pineda traveled on Saturday, July 8th, to El Salvador along with their colleagues from the University of Belize (UB) Black Jaguars football team to participate in the VIII Juegos Deportivos Universitarions Centroamericanos (Central American University Games). The National University of El Salvador will host the regional sporting event held from July 11th through the 15th in the country’s capital. The competitions will see universities from Central America competing in ten different sports disciplines with more than 1,700 athletes.

Varsity College Missionaries participate in sports camp held in San Pedro

As the school year winds down, sports camps begin to engage young kids and students in San Pedro Town. From May 18th to the 21st, the San Pedro Town Council (SPTC) partnered with Varsity College Missionaries and the San Pedro Roman Catholic Church to host a sports camp held at the Ambergris Stadium and the Angel Nuñez Auditorium.

Two young island athletes called to train at FBB in preparations for international tournaments

Two young island footballers have been called to the Football Federation of Belize (FFB) camp. Quijano Brandon will train with the Belize National U-15 male team as a midfielder, while Vatranny Perez will be training with the national U-17 female team playing defense.

Ministries of Youth and National Defence Collaborate for Youth Development

This collaboration will allow both ministries to capitalize on strengths to better serve the youth of Belize. The goal is to improve youth development in the country and transform the youth institution into a central regional youth training institute.

The IDB and Compete Caribbean announces fifteen finalists for the Social Innovation Challenge

The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the Compete Caribbean Partnership Facility (CCPF) with its partners – the United Kingdom’s Department for International Development, the Caribbean Development Bank and the Government of Canada – announced the fifteen finalists for the challenge in Belize known as the ‘Change Dah Story’ Social Innovation Challenge. Change Dah Story, piloted by the CCPF in collaboration with IDB’s Country Office in Belize, aims to support the development of innovative business ideas around the issues faced by vulnerable youth in Belize, including crime and violence.

2019 Kids in Action Youth Scuba Summer Camp certifies 38 new divers

Ambergris Caye has 38 newly certified divers thanks to the annual two-week program via the Kids in Action Youth Scuba Summer Camp. Organized by the San Pedro Tour Operators Association (SPTOA) in collaboration with the San Pedro Tourist Guide Association (SPTGA), the camp aims to teach and certify children in diving so they can better appreciate the natural marine resources surrounding Ambergris Caye.
