Island Heat Classic highlights competitive beach volleyball on Ambergris Caye

The San Pedro Beach Volleyball Association hosted the Island Heat Classic, a three-day two-on-two tournament for senior male and female players from March 7th to 9th. The competition was held daily from 8AM to 4PM at Boca del Rio Park. Registration was free for teams interested in participating, and eight teams competed in a round-robin format before advancing to the semifinals and finals.

Blood drive boosts emergency supply on Ambergris Caye

The San Pedro Community Blood Donors Group hosted a blood drive on Saturday, March 7th, at the Dr. Otto Rodriguez Polyclinic II in San Pedro Town. The event ran from 9AM to 3PM, attracting residents who came out to donate and support the island’s blood supply. By the end of the drive, close to 25 pints of blood had been collected.

Two San Pedro officers complete national drill training program

Two San Pedro police officers, Hubert Joseph, attached to the Gang Intelligence Unit, and Jarrel Martinez with the island’s sub-formation, completed a Non-Commissioned Officer Drill Course on Wednesday, March 4th. The three-week course brought together participants from several police formations across the country, as well as members from the Belize Defence Force Volunteer Battalion and the Belize Coast Guard.

Holy Cross Anglican School Offering its 3rd SPICE Culinary Program Starting May 5

After two successful culinary classes and 17 graduates, Holy Cross Anglican School is excited to announce that it will be starting the third SPICE (San Pedro Institute of Culinary Education) course on May 5, 2026 with 30 classes one night per week through December, culminating in a celebratory graduation dinner!

Authorities Issue Warning After Multiple Manatees Killed by Boat Strikes

The Belize Fisheries Department issued an urgent warning on March 3, 2026, to all vessel operators after several recent manatee strandings across the country. In February, eight manatees were reported stranded in areas including Corozal, Belize City, Placencia, Gales Point, and Hopkins. Authorities confirmed that three of these cases—one adult male and two adult females, found on February 11th, 14th, and 16th—resulted from boat strikes.

SAGA’s First Spay and Neuter Campaign of 2026 Sterilizes Over 100 Animals

The San Pedro SAGA Humane Society wrapped up a week-long spay-and-neuter campaign from February 20th to 26th in San Pedro Town. Led by SAGA President Dr. Heather, along with visiting Canadian veterinarian Dr. Adriana and two Canadian veterinary technicians, the initiative offered free spay and neuter surgeries as well as microchipping services. By the end of the campaign, the team carried out over 104 surgeries and microchipped the animals treated, continuing SAGA’s efforts to curb pet overpopulation on the island.
