Waste Transfer Station Opens in Northern Ambergris Caye

The San Pedro Town Council (SPTC) has opened a small waste transfer station for residents in northern Ambergris Caye. Located near the North Sub-Police Station, approximately ten miles north of San Pedro Town, the facility currently accepts only household waste, including food scraps, paper, plastics, glass, metals, and other materials typically discarded from homes.

Fire Drill Conducted at Sunbreeze Hotel

To enhance fire emergency preparedness in the hospitality sector, a fire drill was held at the Sunbreeze Hotel on Coconut Drive, near downtown San Pedro. The exercise occurred on Thursday, May 29th, shortly after 4PM. The simulation was conducted in collaboration with the San Pedro Fire Service, the Traffic Department, the San Pedro Police Formation, Island Emergency Services (IES), and the Belize Tourism Board (BTB) representatives.

San Pedro High School (SPHS) hosted its highly anticipated Prom 2025 on Friday, May 30th, under the theme “Golden Gala: A Night of Endless Elegance.” The Angel Nuñez Auditorium was transformed into a glamorous venue for the graduating class, marking the close of their high school journey. The event began shortly after 7PM and featured a dazzling display of gowns, tuxedos, and creative attire, with students confidently walking the red carpet to the admiration of spectators and judges.

SPTC Addresses Unauthorized Structures Erected on Public Beaches

On Tuesday, May 27th, the San Pedro Town Council (SPTC) announced its intention to clear unauthorized structures from public beaches as part of a broader initiative to restore and beautify coastal areas for residents and visitors. The effort also aims to improve sanitation crews' access, particularly during heavy influxes of Sargassum.

ComPol Says Belizean Deportees Should Be Welcomed Back Home

The landing of a charter flight carrying 21 Belizeans deported from the United States on May 22nd made headlines across the country. SPTC Seeks Legal Counsel to Uphold Downtown Truck Restrictions

The San Pedro Town Council (SPTC) has retained legal representation to uphold recently implemented restrictions on large trucks downtown. This follows a formal legal notice issued on behalf of a group of trucking companies challenging the regulation. The restriction, which took effect at the end of April, limits the movement of large and container trucks within the town center. Opponents argue the measure is unlawful, arbitrary, and unconstitutional, as it has not yet been formally legislated.

San Pedro Volunteer Special Constables Receive Uniforms

The San Pedro Police Formation continues its efforts to maintain peace and safety on the island. To fulfill this mandate and better serve the growing population, the department collaborates with volunteer special constables, many of whom are residents with regular day-to-day jobs, who remain on standby to assist when needed. On Wednesday, May 28th, these dedicated volunteers were formally recognized for their ongoing support and presented with new uniform shirts.

The event recognized Captain Howell Grange, Fitzgerald Brown, and Franchesco Jair Castañeda, survivors of the ordeal and now hailed as local heroes.
