Give A Gift hosts first Easter egg hunt and movie night
On Sunday, April 13th, the "Give A Gift" initiative, in collaboration with San Pedro Town Councilor Dianeli Aranda, hosted its first Easter Egg Hunt and Movie Night at the Honorable Louis Sylvestre Sporting Complex (Saca Chispas Field). This event, designed for children aged three to ten, began at 5PM and successfully brought families together for a day filled with fun, excitement, and entertainment.

San Pedro BTIA hosts Membership Mixer; industry partners are encouraged to sign up
On Friday, April 11th, the Belize Tourism Industry Association (BTIA) San Pedro Chapter hosted a Membership Mixer event at its Tourism Information Center across from the Saca Chispas field. The event aimed to share information about the work and advocacy efforts of both the local chapter and the national BTIA within the tourism industry and encourage new businesses to become members.

Consultation held in San Pedro to discuss amendments to Sport Fishing Regulations
On Wednesday, April 9th, the Coastal Zone Management Authority and Institute (CZMAI) held a follow-up consultation session with stakeholders from the sport fishing industry in San Pedro. The meeting occurred at the Sunbreeze Hotel and focused on revising the Coastal Zone Management Act regarding sport fishing regulations. Participants engaged in the revision process and provided additional feedback on improvements that could be made to the management and laws governing the sector.

The Mayor of San Pedro Town, Ambergris Caye, Gualberto ‘Wally’ Nuñez, has just returned from Clearwater, Florida, where he has been working to establish a sister-city partnership. This partnership will emphasize marine conservation, a shared priority for both municipalities.

Disaster Risk Management and Climate Change Engagement Workshop held in San Pedro
The Ministry of Blue Economy and Marine Conservation, in collaboration with the National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), held a critical Disaster Risk Management (DRM) and Climate Change Engagement Workshop in San Pedro Town, Ambergris Caye, on Wednesday, April 9th. The event is part of the “Community Engagement of the Coastal Zone and Fisheries Sector of Belize through CCA and DRM Capacity Building” project, which aims to strengthen resilience in the coastal zone and fisheries sector.

Nathaniel Reyes selected to represent Belize in the Sub Zonal Chess Championship
The Belize Chess Federation (BCF) has announced its participation in the prestigious Subzonal Chess Championship Zone 2.3.1, which will take place in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, from April 13 to 20, 2025. Representing Belize at this international event will be Nathaniel Reyes, one of the country's rising chess stars, alongside Charlton Roches from the Belize Defense Force.

Weather to blame for recent power outages in San Pedro
Belize Electricity Limited (BEL) issued an official statement on Tuesday, April 8th, explaining the cause of a series of power outages in San Pedro Town, Ambergris Caye, that occurred the day before. These outages affected island customers for several hours, from Monday night to Tuesday morning. They were attributed to light rain, excessive dust, and salt contamination at the company’s substations and related infrastructure.
