The Belize Tourism Industry Association (BTIA) held its 39th Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Friday, 17 January 2025, at the Best Western Plus Biltmore Plaza in Belize City. One of the key items on the agenda was the election of new officers to the Board. Mr. Stewart Krohn, who had served as BTIA President for four years, has passed on the title to Corozal Chair, Mr. Efren Perez, who will serve as President for the next two years.

Suggestions for improvement have included addressing the size of the current taxi vehicles, ensuring their proper condition, and enhancing the overall presentation of both the service and the drivers. Many islanders believe that if a formal system is introduced and enforced, it will enhance the experience for locals and tourists when using the island's taxi services.

The NEMO Warehouse to open in San Pedro this year

In August 2024, plans were announced to construct or locate a building in San Pedro Town, Ambergris Caye, that will serve as a warehouse for the National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO). This initiative is necessary due to the delays in transporting humanitarian aid from the mainland during crises following natural disasters or fires.

The San Pedro Lions Club organized another fundraiser to support families affected by the fire on December 29th. Held on January 15th, the event featured a barbecue and a clothing sale. All proceeds will be distributed equally among the 12 families still working to recover from the devastating fire. The club remains committed to helping those in need.
