Grim Reefer Claims Top La San Pedrana Wahoo Tournament

The fourth annual La San Pedrana Wahoo Tournament was held on January 17th and 18th at La San Pedrana Bar & Grill, located inside the Holiday Hotel in San Pedro Town. Organized by local fishing enthusiasts, the two-day event attracted 16 boats competing for top honors in catching and weighing wahoo.

Second Cohort of SPICE Program Graduates Nine Students

The San Pedro Institute of Culinary Education (SPICE) celebrated the graduation of its second cohort of island-trained cooks on Friday, January 17th, at Holy Cross Anglican School in San Pedro Town. A graduation ceremony and celebratory dinner were held at the school, where graduates prepared and served a three-course meal for guests. The program is expected to continue later this year with its third edition.

Archbishop Wright Visits San Pedro’s Holy Cross Anglican Church and School

On January 14th, Philip Wright, Archbishop Primate and Metropolitan of the Church in the Province of the West Indies and Lord Bishop of Belize, made his inaugural school visit as archbishop to Holy Cross Anglican Church and Holy Cross Anglican School in San Pedro Town. Rev. Canon Barbara Rosado accompanied him.

San Pedro is seeing a noticeable decline in local fish supplies, forcing restaurants and markets to increasingly rely on imported seafood such as snapper, grouper, and octopus. The shortage has intensified in recent weeks, affecting the island’s seafood-driven dining scene. Local fishing guides and restaurant operators report dwindling catches around Ambergris Caye, where tourism continues to drive strong demand. The issue has become more pronounced since the start of the year, with restaurants struggling to source fresh, local fish consistently.

The San Pedro Fire Service has announced a safety outreach for the first quarter of 2026, focusing on community engagement, fire safety awareness, and improved fire response planning. The initiative will run from January through March and aims to strengthen overall community safety across the island.

Belize Mission Project Returns to San Pedro for Annual Dental Clinics

From January 12th to 16th, a team of dentists from the United States, part of the Belize Mission Project (BMP), returned to San Pedro Town, Ambergris Caye, to provide free dental services to the community. The visiting team, joined by local volunteers and specialists, held clinics for hundreds of island residents at the San Pedro Lions Den.
