Police are investigating an alleged burglary reported at the Belize Bank branch in Caye Caulker. On December 27th, officers from the Caye Caulker police responded to the report and, upon inspecting the bank’s facilities, found that some of the doors had been tampered with.
According to a police report shared on Saturday, December 28th, officers responded to a call at the bank building located on Chapoose Street. They discovered that a metal door had been pried open. Upon further investigation, they found two additional doors showing signs of forced entry. However, police reported that nothing had been stolen from the bank. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are searching for those responsible for the attempted burglary.
Belize Bank Limited, one of the country’s major financial institutions, made history on April 18 of this year with the opening of its Caye Caulker branch. Atlantic Bank was the only bank serving La Isla Carinosa for many years. The establishment of this new branch was considered essential as Caye Caulker continued to grow. At the time of the opening, the bank’s management highlighted that the new branch was created to meet the increasing demand for financial services in this popular tourist destination.
The building that currently houses the bank was under construction six years ago but faced delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. After the pandemic, the next challenge was finding a suitable property for the bank’s Caye Caulker branch. Ultimately, everything was resolved. The opening hours for the Caye Caulker branch are the same as those for branches nationwide: Monday through Friday, from 8AM to 3PM.
The Belize Bank is the oldest and first bank in the country. As it continues expanding its banking operations in Belize, it aims to enhance value for domestic and international customers. Committed to providing excellent service, the bank unveiled its latest upgrade on November 26th—a new digital brand icon symbolizing hope for the future and a commitment to improving its digital services. This commitment aims to make banking seamless and secure for Belize Bank customers.
