UDP San Pedro Town Council sworn in

Amidst the controversy of the recent municipal elections in San Pedro, whereby the People’s United Party (PUP) is contesting the results at the Supreme Court for a new election, the United Democratic Party (UDP) swore in the newly elected San Pedro Town Council (SPTC) on Tuesday, March 13th.

PUP to seek court action for a new election in San Pedro

The PUP alleges that they are in possession of legal documents, including official documents from the Elections and Boundaries Commission that show over 200 unaccounted ballots. The next legal action, according to PUP Senator and attorney Eamon Courtenay, will be to demand a re-election in San Pedro after challenging the recent results at the Belize City Supreme Court in the upcoming days.

The swearing-in of 12 new Justices of the Peace (JP) along with four current JPs sworn-in as Senior Justices of the Peace took Pastor Clive Welsh, President of the San Pedro Association of Justice of the Peace and Commissioner of the Supreme Court by surprise when he was not notified of the event. While PUP Mayoral Candidate André Pérez has confirmed his attendance at the 2018 Mayoral Candidate debate, UDP Mayoral Candidate Daniel Guerrero has gone on record stating that he categorically would not participate in the debate.
