San Pedro Junior College places 4th at ATLIB softball nationals

The San Pedro Junior College (SPJC) softball team represented the Central region and placed fourth at the Association of Tertiary Level Institutions of Belize (ATLIB) national softball championships hosted by Independence Junior College (IJC) at the 3D Softball Stadium in Independence on Saturday, February 24th.

Island Academy girls win third place at NSC national basketball championships

The Island Academy basketball girls won the Belize district primary schools basketball championship at the Belize Civic Center on Thursday, February 15th, which qualified them to the national championships organized by the National Sport Council, where they won third place against four other district champions at the Punta Gorda Multi-purpose Sports Complex on Friday, February 23rd.

The Island Academy heads to Finals in the National Basketball Championship

The female basketball team of The Island Academy (TIA) is set to participate in the Primary School National Basketball Championship in Punta Gorda, Toledo. The island girls earned their spot in the Nationals after winning the District Championship on Thursday, February 15th, in Belize City. The San Pedro Roman Catholic School basketball team represented the island in the boy’s category but unfortunately got knocked out early in the tournament.

Islander Jesus ‘Levi’ Contreras competes in a 10K race in Guatemala

San Pedro's Jesus' Levi’ Contreras, the “Yellow Flash of Belize,” was back on the competition track participating in a 10K race in San Jeronimo, Guatemala. The location’s high altitude and cold weather challenged the island athletes' performance despite the conditions, Contreras represented his home country well, along with teammates Mauro Cuccul, Ana Lopez, and coach Shemadine Carr.

Sports Expo offers a wide range of activities for island youth

San Pedro, Ambergris Caye is known for its sporting community, with great athletes often representing the island nationally and internationally. As such, the current San Pedro Town Council (SPTC) has taken initiatives to provide opportunities for future athletes to explore their skills. A sports expo held last weekend at Central Park saw booths offering the opportunity for children to sign up and be part of several activities after their school time.

San Pedro Tiger Sharks experience second defeat in BEBL’s 2024 season

The island’s premier basketball team, the San Pedro Tiger Sharks, experienced an 85-83 defeat during the second week of the Belize Elite Basketball League (BEBL) 2024 season. The intense match on Friday, February 2nd, at the Civic Center in Belize City, ended in a narrow victory for the Belize City Defenders.

Conquerors FC take the Island League championship

On Saturday, January 27th, Conquerors Football Club (FC) became champions of the Island League tournament after defeating Terror Squad FC 1-0. Organized by the San Pedro Town Council Sports and held at the Ambergris Stadium, the final match saw a packed venue of football fans eager to see the new tournament champion.

San Pedro Tiger Sharks fall short in BEBL opener

The island’s premier basketball team, the San Pedro Tiger Sharks, did not get the best results at the opening match of the Belize Elite Basketball League (BEBL) on Friday, January 26th. The island team lost against the 2023 BEBL champion Benny’s Belize Hurricanes 101-72 at a packed game held at the Belize City Civic Center.
