Island powerlifting athlete Mary Gonzalez-Rodriguez is all geared up, trained, and ready to represent Belize in the upcoming North American Powerlifting Association (NAPF 2023) regional powerlifting tournament set to take place from August 6th through the 12th in the Cayman Islands.

MMA Fight Night III: Trinity to take place on San Pedro beach this weekend
The third edition of the Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) event, 501 Fight Night III: Trinity, is set for Saturday, July 22nd , on the beach in front of La San Pedrana Bar and Grill at the Holiday Hotel. The downtown venue hosted the organizers and fighters on Thursday, July 20th, for a press conference introducing the fighters and sharing information about the event.

National Sports Council sponsors Track Suits for Belize Powerlifting Athletes competing at the North American Regional Powerlifting Championship (NAPF 2023) in the Cayman Islands
The National Sports Council of Belize (NSC) held a brief ceremony on July 19th, at the Marion Jones Conference Room with athletes of the Belize Powerlifting Association (BPA). The event marked the donation of track suits for the national team of powerlifting athletes who are traveling to represent Belize at the North American Powerlifting Association (NAPF 2023) regional powerlifting championship scheduled for August 6th to 12th in the Cayman Islands.

Island athletes Kian Trejo and Kent ‘Bob’ Gabourel participate in a cyclist race in Cancun, Mexico
Over the weekend, on Saturday, July 8th, islanders Kent ‘Bob’ Gabourel and Kian Trejo participated in the night road bicycle race dubbed Criterium Cancun 2023 in Cancun, Quintana Roo, Mexico. The event consisted of a close-circuit race on the cobblestoned route at Cancun's Malecon Tajamar (stone-built embankment).

San Pedro Tiger Sharks are 2023 BEBL sub-champions
The Benny’s Belize Hurricanes were crowned as the national champions of the Belize Elite Basketball League (BEBL) after defeating the San Pedro Tiger Sharks 79-73 on Friday, July 7th. The match at the Civic Center in Belize City was the fourth in the best-out-of-five of the BEBL final series. The San Pedro team tried to extend the finals to a fifth game but had to settle for second place at the end of the match. The island team is now regrouping to return stronger in the upcoming season.

Three island female footballers join the UB Black Jaguars headed to the VIII Central American University Games
Islanders Caroline Sersland, Tanya Teul, and Dennisa Pineda traveled on Saturday, July 8th, to El Salvador along with their colleagues from the University of Belize (UB) Black Jaguars football team to participate in the VIII Juegos Deportivos Universitarions Centroamericanos (Central American University Games). The National University of El Salvador will host the regional sporting event held from July 11th through the 15th in the country’s capital. The competitions will see universities from Central America competing in ten different sports disciplines with more than 1,700 athletes.

San Pedro Tiger Sharks are heading back to the city for decisive game four in the BEBL finals
It will be do or die for San Pedro Tiger Sharks on Friday, July 7th, when they travel to Belize City and face the Benny’s Belize Hurricanes in the fourth game of the Belize Elite Basketball League (BEBL) final series. The Hurricanes won the third match last Friday, leaving the San Pedro team with no choice but to win this upcoming match and force a fifth game to attempt to bring home the championship.

Team Boss Gyal takes this year’s Grand Caribe Deep Sea Classic Fishing Tournament
The seventh annual Grand Caribe Deep Sea Classic, held from Thursday, June 29th through July 2nd, was won by Team Boss Gyal. Team Fish Tales took home second place in the fishing tournament, and Team Bobby C won third place. With over $125,000 in cash and prizes, the popular event saw the participation of 40 different teams from across the country and abroad.
